ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - This year’s Soca Monarch BVI promises to be dynamic and exciting with a slew of local and regional performers slated to take the stage for a grand prize of $10,000.

The show is billed to be one of the main features of the 2016 Emancipation Festival in Road Town.

“This year Soca Monarch BVI made a dynamic shift and persons can expect to see a lot of diversity within the show. We have artists from several different Caribbean countries taking part in the show,” said the event’s Public Relations Officer Shaunice A. Leonard.

She said the event is going to be a show filled with high level energy and entertainment. “It will also be one of the most intriguing shows of the Festival,” Leonard told this news site.

The show is slated for July 23, 2016 at the Festival Village in Road Town. The cash prize is $10,000.00 (winner takes all), with other prizes up for grabs.

Changes

According to Leonard, one significant change was made regarding song category. “Previously, we had two categories, which were groovy and power. This year there will be one open category for all songs. Songs with BPM (Beats Per Minute) 105-170 will all be judged,” she said.

The Soca Monarch BVI official launch party was held on Sunday June 12, 2016 at Long Bay Beach, Beef Island.

“Our next event is our listening party (semi-finals) slated for July 1, 2016 at Myett’s Chill Zone at 7:00 pm. The public will be able to listen and enjoy the songs from each artist,” she said. “All songs will be played and judged by an official panel. On the night, some artists will be eliminated and 15 artists will move on to the finals - the Soca Monarch BVI Show.”

The artists billed to compete in the Monarch are Nina Nyce of Antigua, Drastic of Antigua/VI, Lioness of Anguilla, Hashim, Shiloh, Mackenzie L. K. Baltimore aka B’More, Bluez, Teejay, Pascal, Daddy Pitt, JJ, and Capable all of the VI, Milla of Dominica, Loose Cannon of Grenada, Secon Sta of Trinidad, Mr Mention and Blade of St Kitts, King Vers of St Maarten, Mad Skull of St Vincent, Elizabeth Watley, KM1, Mic Love, Kelly Jr and Byron Bash of the USVI.

The whole ordeal is another contrived spectacle for the willing observers to pay good money to the charlatans who organize the event and then to simultaneously suspend their sense of reality enough to 'believe" the results are actually authentic.

Studying overseas, allow me to send some roots music your way from the Global Arena before all this soca starts.

I have to send a "shout out!" to Shaunice Leonard and her crew for organizing such a creative event- VI BECOMING MASSIVE, as well as for B' More, coming from a religious doctrine who is going to need to “kill them with prayers” to pull off this win: Here are 4 youtube songs from my music selection for inspiration.

For Shaunice- Don’t ever lose yourself, maintain your natural beauty:

And Please Keep this Event Safe! Nuff “Love” from overseas and I hope I can be there for the next one.

    Keep Stretching,

    From the Wings of MAAT.
