Serious crimes ahead for VI - Maduro

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Despite the perceived successes of initiatives such as the most recent job and career fair held in the East End/Long Look community, commentator Edmund G. Maduro remains unconvinced that the current system in place is doing enough to lessen unemployment among the Territory’s youths.

Speaking on the EGM radio show aired on ZROD 103.7FM on April 17, 2014 Maduro said the Labour Department needs to ‘do its work’ and added “they’re just making a joke out of the people”.

He described job fairs as ‘nonsense’ and said the Department needs to look after people’s rights instead. He further suggested that serious crimes lay ahead for the Territory if the matter was not addressed urgently.

“People need work,” Maduro urged, “if they don’t make sure that they have their rights in terms of getting their work. We're going to begin to have some serious crimes right here in the BVI.”

According to Maduro, there is poor leadership within the Ministry that deals with Labour.

Maduro was informed that the Labour Department was represented during the job and career fair but was insistent that this was not enough.

“I have been trying to help a couple of people and that Labour Department has been knocking the people about for their rights,” he alleged.

We all seem to forget what really happened last election, NDP made a strategic move to get the almost majority voters on their side (the youths), because they realise they had already let down the others (older one). With this plan they toyed with the emotions and needs of our children and promised them jobs, contracts, and even give some of them money in their pockets. They went so far as to carry them to register, they (NDP) were the ones who said they were against the bush cutting etc. and low and behold they did the same thing, they came up with schemes to make it look like they helping them, yes they help a few, but fact remains, both young and old have no confidence in either NDP nor VIP anymore, and lets not forget, an old strategy, put people in place to cut down on votes from certain individual just as a show, and pay these people for their bluff. So what new strategies will we come up with next. Its not going to be easy. VIP is slowly falling apart or is this what they want us to think? Ralph may be old but he still got sense, its obvious that he dont have any confidence in any of his members, so he aint stepping down. All of you just make sure when you handing out envelopes make sure that I get one of them I dont care what you do.
