Selkridge sensational as Spartans sink in Semi’s

Selkridge had her best season so far finishing as number two in the USA with her hitting average. She also finished the season with 280 kills, 106 total blocks. She also set the University of Tampa record in Kill Percentage.

ROADTOWN, Tortola, VI – Danielle Selkridge recorded ten kills as The No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team concluded its season with a heartbreaking loss to No. 3 Concordia University – St. Paul in the NCAA Division II Semifinal match on Friday December 2nd, 2011.

The Golden Bears took the match 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-13) and look to face host Cal State San Bernardino in the NCAA Division II Championship.

The Spartans conclude their season 33-2 while the Golden Bears improve to 33-2 as they continue to their final match of the year.

Three Spartans ended the night with 10 kills in Danielle Selkridge, Holly Reschke and Meagan Burke.

The match was won in the fourth as Concordia held a lead through the set, ending the Spartan season with a 25-13 final score.

The Spartans head home with an excellent season record of 33-2 as the team concludes its 2011 campaign.

Selkridge finishes the season with impressive stats including being ranked number 2 in the USA in hitting percentage as well as being honoured as a First-team all-SSC, AVCA all-South Region, Daktronics first-team all-South Region, AVCA second-team All-American, NCAA South Regional all-tournament team, NCAA national all-tournament team, AVCA National Player of the Week (10/12), SSC Defensive Player of the Week (9/13), SSC Offensive Player of the Week (10/11), SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, led SSC in hitting percentage and ranked fourth in blocks, played in 34 matches, starting 28.

She finished the season with 280 kills, 106 total blocks, 348.5 points and a .461 hitting percentage, led her team in hitting percentage and blocks while ranking third in kills, set the school record in kill percentage with a .714 clip against Barry (10/8) where she smacked a season-high 23 kills.

She hit over .500 in 14 matches, including three straight in matches with Florida Tech (10/2), Barry (10/8) and Nova Southeastern (10/9), went 11-for-16 (.688) and 10-for-15 (.667) in back-to-back matches against Saint Leo (11/2) and Florida Tech (11/5), had 59 kills in six NCAA tournament matches, including 13 in national title match with Concordia (12/4), had 25 multi-block performances. Selkridge blocked a season-high nine against Concordia (9/11), tallied eight blocks, including five block solos, against West Florida in the NCAA South Region tournament final (11/20), recorded multiple blocks in four of final five matches of season and had a season-high four digs against Concordia (9/11).

Just for the record last season, as a Freshman, she was named to the SSC all-freshman team, the NCAA South Regional all-tournament team, was on the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and played in 33 matches, starting nine.

She led the nation with a .444 hitting percentage, was second on team with 64 total blocks and 18 solo blocks. She made her collegiate debut versus Lock Haven (8/27), earned first career start in match with Arkansas-Monticello (10/17), recorded first kills against Georgian Court (8/29), had a Season-high 15 kills in a five-set win at Eckerd (11/10), posted multiple kills in 28 contests and finished the season with multiple kills in the final 23 matches, including eight versus Eckerd (11/20) in NCAA South regional.

She recorded multiple blocks in 21 matches and had a season best seven blocks that came in a win at Saint Leo (11/4); she also had five blocks at Florida Tech (10/28).

    i know this young lady when she first started out playing...seeing her now reaching this level in the game..is awsome...jackie did a great job with her fundermentals and daniel committment..got her thus far..lookin forward to her returning home some day to pass on her expierence..to other young ladies here at home.i wish u all the best..shoot for the stars.. and continue to make us proud!!
