ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islands News Online's team of reporters around the Virgin Islands and well placed sources within the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government of Dr. D. Orlando Smith have told this news site that there will be some up-coming announcements of portfolio changes.

This news site understands that the BVI Ports Authority, a statutory body removed under the Virgin Islands Party administration from the Ministry of Communications and Works to the Ministry of Finance, has now been returned to the Ministry of Communications and Works.

In a surprise move, it is this news site's understanding from a source inside the ruling Administration that the BVI Airports Authority may be reassigned to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour. According to the same official, serious discussions are ongoing and an announcement could be made as early as next week. It is not clear why such a subject is to be transferred to that Ministry.

The new Minister for Natural Resource and Labour is Honourable Dr. Kedrick Pickering, who is also the representative of the 7th district the district, located next to the 8th district where the airport is located.

The BVI Airports Authority is another statutory body responsible for the management and oversight of the three airports in the Virgin Islands. They are the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, the Virgin Gorda Airport on Virgin Gorda and Auguste George Airport on Anegada. Since its inception, it has always been the portfolio of the Minister for Communications and Works, however, it remains the decision of the Premier as to assignment of subjects to his Ministers.

The BVI Ports Authority, another statutory body, is responsible for the management of all ports of entry in the Virgin Islands.

Why do we even have a BVI Air Port Authority. BVI Port Authority should be for all ports, whether sea or air. If you going to have an Air Port Authority, then the BVI Port Authority should be renamed Seas Port Authority. If you need to rename it make the correction to the name one time to VI not BVI.
