ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Royal British Virgin Islands Yacht Club’s Youth Sailing Instructor, Omari Scott, will be leaving the Territory mid December 2013 to take up fresh challenges in Florida and the RBVIYC has plans to make his send off a memorable one with a host of activities slated for Saturday December 7, 2013.

A statement from the RYBVIYC confirmed the news, stating “We have now officially learnt that our club instructor, Omari, will now sadly be moving on from us to take up a position in Florida. Happily for him, he will be closer to his loved ones and we wish him every success in his future.”

Scott will leave with a reputation enhanced, not only through his sailing skills, but also as a ‘big brother’ and friend to all our youth sailors. He has made many friends and gained the support of many parents who made his stay here in the BVI a happy and memorable one, the RBVIYC stated.

To show their respect for his hard work and results, the RYBVIYC is planning a Soccer Send off, on Saturday December 7, 2013 where all parents, members, and youth sailors can have a final frolic with Scott who was also an outstanding addition to the Wolues Football Club, scoring many goals and adding such much needed spice to a flagging front line.

According to the RYBVIYC, the plan is to keep the event running for many hours so that people can drop in as convenient between the hours of 10:30 A.M. and 3 P.M.

The event is still in the formative stages, although time is running short and volunteers are needed to make it happen. “We are asking for help tomake this event a successful and memorable one by planning, coordinating and executing it; drinks, snacks, light BBQ, soccer balls, goals, pictures, permission from Nanny Cay etcetera.”

The event will have to be almost a 100% volunteer effort with the full membership of the Club being available to call on for resources but, if Club funds are especially required, the organisers will be able to approach the Director of Sailing, Mr Brian Duff for any funding requirements, who will seek the necessary approval.

The Club board is also arranging a special presentation to be made to Scott at the Commodore’s annual Christmas dinner (Dec. 14) so anyone who is interested in making a small contribution towards this can contact Lisa Penn-Lettsome, with the Club also contributing.

The presentation will be given on behalf of the Club, members, parents, and youth sailors.
