School teacher found guilty of indecent assault on student
Evans, who was a pastor for 16 years, was accused of fondling a then 13 year-old student of the Elmore Stoutt High School where he had taught for many years.
The offence was reportedly committed on June 4, 2010 at the school.
Evans had entered a not guilty plea and the trial started on March 17 of this year. Some 7 witnesses were called.
It was reported that Evans touched the private parts of the VC while asking her the whereabouts of her mother. He had reportedly placed the student on his lap also and was only discouraged when the VC attempted to injure him with a piece of metal.
Evans had said that he hugged the student in an act of consoling her after she had indicated to him that she had difficulties with Mathematics.
Magistrate Tamia Richards informed Evans that the maximum penalty for his offense was 5 years imprisonment.
He has been remanded until Wednesday December 15, 2011 when he is to return for mitigation. Evan's lawyer Duane Jean Baptiste had made a request for mitigation to be done at another date so that his client could get more time to prepare himself since the issue of mitigation was a serious one due to the nature of the allegations.
