DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Despite a late burst of energy from St Kitts Sandy Point Falcons, they appeared no match for the local Save The Seed (STS) All Stars as they were defeated 64-67 during an all star game as part of the Hon. Julian Fraser/Save The Seed National Intermediate League last evening, September 22, 2013.

Shakeem Freeman led STS All Stars with 16 points while Jevon Serrant added 12 points and Shaq Fonseqa supported with 10 points of his own. Serrant led the team in defence with 16 boards and received support from Fonseca with 12 rebounds while Freeman had 8 rebounds.

STS led by as many as 8 points mid-way through the fourth quarter when the score was 47-55 and never lost the lead despite the Falcons’ late charge in the closing minutes.

Javal Hodge led the Falcons with 16 and Kyle Brown supported with 13 points to advance the team’s cause. With the exception of Taslin Hodge, who held the team together with 11 rebounds and 8 points, the Falcons made a poor exhibition of defence with no other teammate getting out of single digits in rebounds, blocks or steals.

Coach of the Falcons, Sean ‘Bucksy’ Crossley, admitted his team’s performance was sub-par and explained that they were a bit exhausted after playing three consecutive nights of games in the territory.

“The game was alright, we put up a fight. It was a competitive game coming down to the end,” he said.

He related that team members were in the pool all day and didn’t have much legs left to play the game. “Maybe if we had gotten a little shoot around in the gym it might have been a different game,” he suggested.

He commended the facilities at the gym and said it was a good gesture for young people of the community.

Meanwhile, in the preceding game of the Intemediate League’s Men’s Division, West Gunners’ Deshaun Hodge dropped 36 points to lead all scorers in sinking the College Boyz 87-76.

Hodge combined this effort with 8 steals, 3 rebounds and 3 assists to push his team for the win. Alexander Jarvis supported with 16 points while Kyle Abraham added 12 points for West Gunners.

Shakeem Freeman led the College Boyz with 21 points while Ashley Ritter and Tyree Maduro supported with 19 and 11 points respectively. Ritter and Jarvey Martin led the team in rebounds with 13 and 11 boards each, while Freeman had 9 and Maduro collected 6 boards.
