Sasha D. A. Flax is acting Sister Islands Coordinator

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Ms Sasha D. A. Flax has been appointed to act as Sister Islands Coordinator in the Office of the Deputy Governor effective March 1, 2019.

This is according to a press release from the Government Information Service (GIS) on February 22, 2019, which states that the appointment was made by His Excellency the Governor, Augustus J. U. Jaspert, in accordance with section 92 of the Virgin Islands Constitution, and acting in accordance with the advice of the Public Service Commission.

Ms Flax will serve as itinerant Administrator for the Sister Islands and monitor, promote and facilitate the execution of projects designed to bring about sustained improvement in the quality, quality and delivery of Government Services.

She will be responsible for providing expert advice on programmes and projects to improve the delivery of services to Sister Islands to ensure an acceptable standard of living.

She will supervise the work of as well as provide leadership and information to District Officers assigned to Sister Islands in order to monitor compliance with laws, policies, rules and regulations. Ms Flax will also evaluate their work and provide counsel on ways to improve service delivery and performance to ensure their output is of an acceptable standard and that resources are used efficiently.

Additionally, the Acting Sister Islands Coordinator will serve as Commissioner of Oaths for the Sister Islands to ensure the duties of this role are carried out in a timely and professional manner.

Ms Flax attained a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in Travel Tourism and Hospitality Management from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. She was the recipient of the Hospitality Alumni Award for Exemplary Students in 2011.

She was appointed the Business Development Manager at the Department of Trade Investment Promotions and Consumer Affairs in 2017, serving as the advisor for business development to entrepreneurs. She also assisted with the implementation of business recovery initiatives post the 2017 hurricanes and produced training programmes for micro, small and medium enterprises.
