Sapphire slams hat trick despite ESHS heroics!
Makedo Fahie opened the scoring early on for the VG Girls, but Tevern David equalized before Sapphire Flax took over and scored twice in a dominating box to box performance. Tecora Morgan also scored to give the visitors a 4-1 half time advantage.
Forced into a reshuffle at the break, ESHS came out and out battled their more fancied opponents, being unlucky not to make a break through which would have made the game even more exciting.
Nekeisha Chinnery did further damage to a sprained wrist and was replaced in goal by David, but rather than upset the rhythm, the changes inspired ESHS. Chinnery was a rock playing defensive midfield, David swept up any danger closer to the goal and each of the ESHS player performed 100% better than in the first half.
Flax did complete her hat trick, but it was to be the only addition to the score line for Begrado Flax, who before the break had threatened to run away with the game. ESHS got their just rewards with a late second.
In other High School action, Troy Caesar scored twice in leading the Elmore Stoutt High School over their Seventh Day Adventist counterparts, 4-0. Caesar scored in the 5th and 6th for the early cushion before Jamie McCoy added a third goal in the 64th and Robert Brown rounded out the scoring in the 87th minute of play.
In the U7 league, Alex Fountain had a hat trick as Cedar 2 beat Althea Scatliffe Maroon, 3-0. His goals came in the 11th, 12th and 26th minutes. Fountain also scored in the 1-1 draw with First Impressions, who had Alzani Callwood to thank for the equalizer.
Cedar I was then held to a scoreless draw by Leonora Dellville before trimming Enid Scatliffe Red, 2-1. Gethin Jones opened Cedar I account in the 16th, with Enid Scatliffe Red’s K’Jari Thomas scoring the equalizer three minutes later. William Dawson had the game winner for Cedar I in the 20th.
Joy Schneider had four goals within a 10 minute span, in leading Seventh Day Adventist past Enid Scatliffe Grey, 4-0. He scored in the 9th, 10th, 15th and 19th minutes of play.
Cedar and Enid Scatliffe Grey settled for a 1-1 tie after Isar Kerkourf’s opener in the 2nd minute for Cedar had been cancelled out by Sebastian Esser in the 14th.
Enid Scatliffe Blue pulled out a 3-1 victory over Cedar, with three unanswered goals before Kerkourf could score in the 11th minute. Omari Simmons began the scoring in the 2nd followed by two scores from DeAndre Rodgers in the 4th and the 6th.In the U9 Division, Sheldon Henry had the game’s only score in the 9th minute, leading St. Georges to a 1-0 victory over Leonora Delville and unbeaten Cedar Green, secured a 1-0 victory over First Impressions, on Zach Jackson’s goal in the 8th minute.
In the U13’s, the Seventh Day Adventists stopped the West End Tigers, 2-1, with Larique Austire (2nd,) and Randel Hammerding, (17th) putting them ahead before Ajai Frett pulled one back for the Tigers in the 24th.
Seventh Day Adventist and Cedar played to a 1-1 draw after Leo Forte put Cedar ahead only for Austrie to equalize.
In the U12’s, First Impressions subdued Althea Scatliffe 3-1 with Guilluame Perkins putting First Impressions ahead in the 9th. Lily Pierce added the second in the 15th before Althea Scatliffe’s Laresha Martin made it 2-1 in the 26th. Three minutes later, Tyler Forbes gave First Impressions the two goal cushion victory.
Sheldon Harry had two goals as St. Georges overhauled Little Rainbow, 2-0. Harry scored in the first and again in the 15th for the win.
Two goals by Giovani Grant, led Joyce Samuels to a 3-1 victory over St. Mary’s. Grant scored in the first minute of play, before St. Mary’s Dequan George pulled them even in the 7th.Timothy Louis put Joyce Samuels back on top in the 20th with Grant’s other goal coming in the 28th.
