Samuel’s 27 powers Playaz to win over Latinos!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As action continued in the BVI Basketball Federation 2012 Summer League, Pure Playaz beat the Latino’s 108-87 with Bodean Samuel scoring 27 points along with 7 rebounds.

Samuel also recorded 3 assists and 1 block as his side overturned a 4-point half time deficit to run out comfortable winners.

Nicols Charles added 20 points, Roger Farrington, 17 and Deon Smith, 15 with 10 rebounds as the Playaz outscored the Latinos by 13 points in the 3rd and 12 in the 4th.

Sandy Nadal top scored for the Latinos with 16. Julio Turnbull and Victor Lima both scored 13 whilst Manuel Grant added 12. Nadal also handed out 7 assists and Grant picked up 7 rebounds.

The first game of June 1 saw the Hawks crushed And One 83-65. Cravern Andrews , Victor Emannuel and Khadin Fahie all recorded doubles with points and rebounds while Diandre Simmonds top scored with 22 points. Franklynn Penn Junior added 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists to his night’s work. For And One, Sheldeen Joseph scored 15, Albert Hatchett ,13 and Halford Barzey 11 rebounds.

All Ah Wee then beat the HLSCC Stingrays 92-69, on the back of 23 points from Kenrick Thomas Junior and 24 from Shomari Morgan. Regg Penn scored 24 points with 13 rebounds for the Stingrays.

The Young Gunners had a tough battle before edging past Another Level 91-88, with the game neck and neck deep into the 4th quarter. Ashfield Frett led the Gunners with 26 points with only Michael Benjamin joining him with double digit efforts. Another Level had no less than 5 players with over 10, led by Sekayi Petersens , 20. He also picked up 12 rebounds and a massive 15 steals.

On Saturday June 2, ESHS Gold Rams beat Junior Mega Mix 26-23 with Hakeem Penn’s 8 points being the top score. Damien Hooper and D’Moi Hodge both scored 6 for the Mix.

After the Playaz game, Junior Mystics beat the Skulls 77-41.

Paul Bridgwater scored 31 points with 10 rebounds and 8 steals while William Penn Jnr. scored 15 and Kenya Achom, 13. For the Skulls, Jomoiri Dagou scored 11, J’Moi Liburd 10 and Shamoii Dagou 8.

The evening’s last game saw an amazing see saw battle between Mega Mix and the Kings with the Mix finally holding on to win 123-100. The Mix were down 53-50 at half time, up by 7 at the end of the third and then romped home on the back of a 43-point last quarter. Douron Phillip scored 23, Halstead Chiverton 25, Shamal Caines 19 and Calvert White 16.

Jevonne Demming responded with 26 points for the Kings, Phillip Glasgow Jnr added 21 and Kimani , 16.

The final two games of the weekend saw the Latinos beat the Stingrays 71-69 with 18 points from Sandy Nadal. Regg Penn again top scored for the College team with 26.

The Legs then rounded off the weekend with a 106-86 win against the Pure Playaz. Randy George proving too hot to handle as he scored 32 points with 16 rebounds. Gary Hillhouse added 25 points and Kennedy Bass 20. For the Playaz, Ephraim Gordon recorded 17 as did Bodean Samuel.
