ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Top Priority Security Services, owned by Lesmore Smith, has recently embarked on an explosive detection training seminar from which three officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and four officers of Top Priority Security Services benefited.

The training took place between January 19-21, 2016 in the Road Town Police Station Training Room. The facilitator for the workshop was Paris Nicholson III, CEO of K9 on Patrol Services Inc. (KOPS).

“What we have done in conjunction with the RVIPF is a three day bomb training seminar,” said Mr Lesmore Smith in a comment to this news site.

“We try to have a team spirit where the Police Officers, along with my security officers, are trained in detecting bombs and the carriers of the bombs etc,” he said.

“I brought in the facilitator and I invited the Police in on the training.”

He said the initiative is part of the efforts to encourage a better working relationship between the Police and citizens through private security firms. According to Mr Smith, as safety comes first, it is important that security personnel as well as Police are trained in the most up to date methods of explosive detection.

He said the training is key for his personnel as they work guarding many businesses and companies throughout the territory. “In case something goes wrong we ourselves must have an understanding of what to look for, securing the area and evacuating the premises,” he said.

Some months ago, there was a report of a bomb threat at the RiteWay Supermarket at Pasea, on the main island of Tortola.

Ok, so we're saying that now that these officers has had "detection training" we can be sure that if in fact an explosive device is ever found these folks can defuse or we're better off as sitting ducks waiting for fireworks

No, "we" would be better off at being able to evacuate the area before the fireworks.
