RVIPF focuses on building partnerships during police week
With this year’s theme in mind, ‘Making our community safer by fostering partnerships for tomorrow’, officers of the RVIPF are hoping to entice those who delight in finer apparel to a Hat, Shoe and Bag Fashion Extravaganza at the Blu Lounge at Harbour View, East End on Saturday, 23 February and for those who enjoy Caribbean cuisine to an International Food/Drink and Karaoke Night planned for Wednesday, February 27 at the Road Town Police Station.
Animal enthusiasts can enjoy an afternoon at the Queen Elizabeth Park on the final Saturday of activities (March 2) where the best show dogs will be prized. This light-hearted, fun event will recognize the best dressed dog, the fastest biscuit eater and the waggiest tail, just a few of the categories.
The week opens on Saturday, 23 February with a health walk for the community from Police Headquarters to the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre and back followed on Sunday by a church service at the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church. On Sunday afternoon, Police will compete against various teams from Territory’s communities in both cricket and soccer mini tournaments on the Roger Hodge Playing Field in Sea Cows Bay.
Among the other sporting events is a pool tournament slated for Monday night (February 25), a Law Enforcement Shooting Competition and a softball match at the Roger Hodge Playing Field slated for Tuesday (February 26) and Youth Basketball Competition slated for Thursday night (February 28).
The ever-popular Bingo night, with its many cash prizes and the jackpot, is slated for Friday night (March 1) at the Road Town Police Station.
Acting Superintendent Alexis Charles who heads the planning committee for this year’s Police Week events hopes that the activities will bring out both those who consistently support the events of the RVIPF and well as those who want to meet the men and women behind the uniform in a relaxed environment.
“Our jobs require that we must be law enforcers. However, annual events during Police Week provide that opportunity for members of the public to meet those of us who enjoy a good, friendly game at the pool table, or on the cricket, football or softball field. We are inviting public to come out, help bridge that gap and enjoy some light competition and entertainment.” he said.
RVIPF celebrates Police Week annually during the last week of February.
