ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The [British] Virgin Islands will be the 139th leg for a British man who is on a mission to run a 10K in 206 countries across the world to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Daniel Thompson aka 'Dan' will be in Tortola this Sunday March 25, 2018 and his 10K run will start at the entrance to the Tortola Pier Park at 4:30 P.M.

The 10k course will loop Road Town, out to Prospect roundabout, around the back of the Capital and out to Purcell roundabout and back.

“The goal is to bring out as many runners as we can to support Dan, so please feel free to pick your own shorter (or longer) loop,” commented Kay Reddy of BVI runners, who also said local runners are delighted to support Dan and his mission.

“It would be great if runners could wear BVI green and yellow National Colours and bring along BVI flags and supporters for the start/finish picture,” Ms Reddy added.

Run the World Challenge

Thompson will be completing four 10km runs in the Caribbean in March 2018 as part of his Run the World Challenge. He has previously run in 137 countries in Africa, South-East Asia, North, Central and South America, Europe, South Asia, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the Middle East.

Run the World is an extraordinary challenge that has been created by Thompson, a British businessman and sports enthusiast, who has undertaken to run 10km in every country in the world - a total of 206 countries - by the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Following the recent death of his mother from cancer, Dan is doing the challenge to raise money for cancer research and to promote the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle.

Thompson will be running in Basseterre, St Kitts & Nevis on Sunday March 25, 2018 (morning), Road Town (Virgin Islands) on Sunday March 25 (evening), Roseau (Dominica) on Monday March 26 (late evening) and St John’s (Antigua) on Tuesday March 27, 2018.

Dan commented, “I’m very much looking forward to running in the Caribbean and I hope that as many people as possible will join me on the runs. I’d like to stress that everyone is welcome to take part - irrespective of their level of fitness or running speed. Participants are also welcome to run part of the way, join in on a bike or just come along and support the runners!”

“I hope that, by running round the world, I’ll not only raise a lot of money for cancer research but that I’ll also help increase awareness of the huge benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle,” Thompson added.

There has been alot of attention in the blogs to the trash issue on island. I have noticed many water bottles on the road after a run. I understand this is necessary; but please have someone go after the runners to pick up the bottles. Thanks much and enjoy a good run.

Hi small island, thanks for the comment i also completely abhor trash. After every BVI Runners race i walk and drive the entire course and i can tell you most of the rubbish is not ours! We have had complaints during the run itself which is fair enough in particular as we move away from plastic to sustainable bottles and hopefully we can all find a way to avoid all the plastic bottles littering the BVI.
