ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Rotary Club of Road Town had added to the Christmas spirit in the Territory with the lighting up of the Road Town roundabout which now dazzles with ‘a million twinkling lights’.

The Club held a simple ceremony near the roundabout to mark the occasion last evening December 19, 2014.

Attending the event were members of the Rotary Club of Road Town, members of staff of Nagico Insurances and LIME BVI and members of the public.

Speaking on behalf of the Rotary Club of Road Town, Assistant District Governor Delma Maduro said that it is a time to spread joy, adding that the Rotary family in the Virgin Islands has been doing this throughout the year through their various projects.

“We are officially lighting this beautiful roundabout. It will certainly bring some kind of hope and energy to persons,” she said.

Making remarks at the ceremony were Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4). He expressed thanks to the Rotary Club of Road Town for the job they did with the lighting up of the roundabout, calling it impressive.

“I don’t know if I have the right words to describe my gratitude to the Rotary Club of Road Town for this wonderful job that they have done with the roundabout. I am impressed with the thoughtfulness and the effort and work of the Rotary Club of Road Town. They have really gone far and beyond,” he said, expressing thanks to them for showing what community spirit is really about.

President of the Rotary Club of Road Town Shan Mohamed thanked his fellow Rotarians for working on the project. He also thanked the sponsors LIME BVI, Nagico Insurances and Vanterpool Enterprises for supporting the project.

“It comes at a very special time in the BVI community and we want to keep this tradition alive,” he said. “We hope that people who might not have been feeling the Christmas spirit are now feeling the Christmas spirit,” he said.

Are you any better off? At least they are trying to make an impact on the community and not sitting down criticizing.

It will be nice if the businesses in Road Town were to decorate their premises. We support them all year and they won't even show appreciation by decorating for Christmas to make their establishments inviting. They are just interested in making money. You go to the stores and malls in St. Thomas the decorations are blinding. I am going to St. Thomas on Christmas eve, where the merchants spread Christmas cheer to their customers.

So how come the other businesses that donated monies to the lighting of the roundabout were not stated? I guess the money too small.I'm happy to know my company supported this, even though not named.
