ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Rotary Club of Road Town may have fallen short of its target of $50, 000 at its annual Grand Raffle but the club is committed to providing yet another dialysis machine to Peebles Hospital.

The club has already donated two such machines to the Dialysis Unit of Peebles Hospital but noted that the demand for dialysis machines has increased in the Territory.

According to the President of Rotary Club of Road Town, Yvonne Crabbe, the club was hoping to raise some $50, 000 from their annual Grand Raffle, which saw the final drawing on Christmas Eve, but did not reach the target. “I know we did not reach that goal but we hope to have made some money so that we can use for our community projects.

However, according to Ms. Crabbe, the donation of another dialysis machine to Peebles Hospital would not be compromised. “At the beginning of every year we decide on what community project we will embark upon and this year we decided to continue to support many of our signature projects like the Kiddies Fiesta, our annual Health Expo, Easter Kite Flying and we decided that we would continue to use a small amount of the proceeds that we get from the raffle and leverage it with Rotary International to buy yet another dialysis unit for the hospital. They are very much in need of it (dialysis machine) so that is a project that we will continue to support.”

Meanwhile, this year’s raffle received support from Riteway Foodmarkets, which entitled a ticket holder to a 5% discount on purchases over $150 at any of the Riteway Foodmarkets.

Ms. Crabbe said Rotary Club of Road Town was very grateful to the persons who supported the raffle including the sponsors such as Infinite Solutions, LIME, Radio Doctor, Little Denmark, TICO, Caribbean Cellars, Nail Bay, Little Dix Bay, Island Services and Bolos Wholesale.

Dick Alphonso was the winner of the top cash prize at the final raffle drawing on Christmas Eve at Riteway Supermarket in Pasea. Alphonso pocketed $7500 cash prize while Sarah Penny was the lucky ticket winner of the second and only other cash prize. Ms. Penny collected $5000.

Earlier the non-cash prize segment brought satisfaction for Carol Arthur, who won a perfume gift set from Bolos Wholesale. Jessica Massaco won a bottle of champagne from Caribbean Cellars while Kathy Ann Bascom was drawn a winning ticket of a pair of earrings from Little Denmark.

Terry Hill was the lucky ticket winner of a bracelet from Little Switzerland while Derrick Jennings received a dishwasher from O’Neal and Webster.

There was also a Blackberry smart phone for grabs compliments of Lime and that was won by Mandinka Crabbe. An attractive prize of a notebook from Infinite Solutions was won by Heather James while the prize of a weekend for two at Nail Bay Resort in Virgin Gorda was claimed by Gwen Rubaine.

A first draw, known as the Early Bird Draw, was also held in November.
