ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Another Government Minister has been fired from the National Democratic Party (NDP) administration—the latest victim being, Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), who served as Minister for Health and Social Development.

He has since also resigned from the party.

Virgin Islands News Online has been reliably informed that Premier, Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) had written to Governor Augustus, J. U. Jaspert, requesting that Hon Skelton—who purportedly heads the break-away political grouping, Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM)—be fired from his position by having the portfolio revoked.

Resign

According to reports, Premier Smith, has since disclosed that Hon Skelton, since receiving his dismissal letter from the Governor, has since formally resigned from the NDP, as a member.

This publication also confirmed with Hon Skelton, who is currently overseas, that he has formally resigned from the NDP and has also been fired as a Minister.

Hon Skelton is the second Minister of Government to be fired from the Dr Smith Administration in recent days, following on the recent firing of Honourable, Archibald C. Christian (AL), who served as Junior Minister for Tourism.

Sources say, PVIM—headed by Hon Skelton—started its organization about a month, following the Saturday, June 23, 2018, election of Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL), as the NDP Chairman, replacing outgoing Premier, Dr Smith (AL).

Sources close to the PVIM said, the party was formed based on how many of the members felt the NDP congress was allegedly manipulated, to produce a win for Hon Walwyn; the issues of trust, accountability, transparency and many of the NDP founding members not wanting to be led by Mr Walwyn, who they claim “does not listen.”

Dr smith allowed Mark and Myron to wreak havoc on this territory and never took action against them,Now he is trying somehow to show himself during this lame duck period.Does he think somehow it makes him look good ? Does he think we will forget about all his failures? God help us all!

I agree with the Premier. Ronnie is all about Power if he had won leadership of the NDP he was not forming his own party. Ronnie to this date have not come to his supporters or people that voted him in office why the decision to leave. He acts as if he voted himself in office.

I no longer can trust him as a leader he is to deceptive he lied last year on Platinum and saying something in the Beacon and from now on he looking for us to vote for him and trust him. When he campaign he will go off his record as minister of finance, minister health and deputy premier but these position was under the NDP Government. You always wanted the head of the Party now you have your own where I hope you loose for your undermining the Premier and his administration.

Ronnie can’t be bought that’s all this is about. Some of you people don’t have a clue the kind of money passing and the things that going on. When you have to win a an election by dishing out money says a lot about you and those that received. Come out from among them. Keep your head up Ronnie. We all see what’s going on. They don’t fool us.

@ voice: You sound so foolish saying Ronnie is all about power! Check who is all about power:
the very one who got the Premier to take Ronnie to Asia for two weeks so that he could not campaign for the internal election of chairmanship of the NDP; the very one who wanted the Premier to step down from the post of Minister of Finance and sought help from others to do it including Ronnie but Ronnie had more principle than him; the very one who destroyed the financial stability of this country by spending the tax payers monies recklessly. That is who wants power at all cost!

You are not the only supporter of Ronnie for there are a lot more of us!

A voice: In every situation there is more than one side. Obviously you choose to judge based on a one side story and that is your choice. There are a lot of facts that can point to deception by the Premier and Myron as well. Talk about the Premier taking Ronnie to Asia for two weeks on short notice so he could not campaign for the NDP internal elections; talk about the Premier holding a press conference on his return and did not even mention that Ronnie accompanied him on the trip - waste of taxpayer money; talk about the Premier, his wife, and Myron raising high fives at Mulligan after Myron's win at the NDP internal election; talk about undermining the Premier, let him look at his two M's who wanted him out as Minister of Finance a long time ago; talk about undermining, look at which Ministers have spent the country's monies recklessly and the Premier could not control them because of their relationship with his wife; and there is lot more truth that can be said!

When judging someone, do look at the evidence on all sides. His record speaks for him whether in NDP or not! You certainly that you are the only one with a voice and a voting hand. These Virgin Islands are made up of a lot more people than you! While many will stay silent, they will certainly speak at the poll. You are obviously content with destroying these Virgin Islands! WHAT POLITICIAN WILL BOLDLY SAY THAT HE CANNOT PROTECT VIRGIN ISLANDERS? WHAT MESSAGE IS HE SENDING TO VIRGIN ISLANDERS? IF THAT IS THE KIND OF LEADERSHIP YOU SUBSCRIBE TO, THEN YOU CERTAINLY DO NOT CARE FOR THESE VIRGIN ISLANDS1

Skelton should have done the honourable thing and resigned from early and stop being a coward. His foot soldiers were sent forward with the message of tbe new party while he and his rich friends stayed in the background. My take on this situation is that the NDP is going through a purge. These people have to go to make way for new life in the party. I am baffled that these people had the audicity to be members of a oarty and secretly formed a new party! I am now supposed to go and support Mr. Skelton's party that is funded my some rich people here? I will not. I have absolutely no confidence that they have my interests at beart. Check it out my people. They are all rich and want to vet richer. Don't be fooled for a moment.

This is a political disgrace of epic proportions. Just disgusting. And these fleeing clowns want to format new party and peeps to vote for them after sitting on their laurels and herd mentality for the last seven years and very questionable fiscal responsibility? And suspected strongly of being corrupt? Seize the time. Flee north.

Well doc I had high hopes for you and it’s a pity that your last year in office had to end like this. You are good person, no one can take that from you. Hopefully those in the HOA will pull themself together and try to get some work done in the remaining months. Try your best for the last Doc and bow out gracefully.

This is a lesson for all...sometimes in life it’s your friends that plot for your downfall.

He had to be fired. No issues with him forming his own party but to remain and undermine the current Government and your leader.... Like or dislike Doc, this has to be done. The minute Archie said he joinging Ronnie’s party, he should have handed is resignation letter because at that point it was no longer hearsay about this new party.

Now who will fight to be deputy premier: I want Turnbul but the former junior minister might fuss for it: picko could argue for it...those chaps don’t have the interest of the people: I really wish to hear their campaign message: we taking about the most corrupt administration ever in the history of the VI: my goodness the allegations year after year about missing millions & millions: how can this be explained(the missing millions of
tax money)...some of us fussing and picking sides some of we very very defensive; but I say where is the people money(a corrupt gathering by any other name is still a corrupt group)I personally know that there is no major difference between the old guard and cloning of a new guard(those who gone with it and those that sat and said nothing about it) upcoming elections will be awsome

Has any one seen the billboard in fish bay with a bunch of buzz words- integrity, accountability, transparency- well if Ronnies party don’t all go and register their interests with the registrar straight off - they are already a lying crock of ****. Ronnie should have resigned first and then announced party. This just looks crap already!

If there was a coalition government, wouldn't Cabinet be made up of people from different parties? Party affiliation is not a pre requisite for during in Cabinet. Your interest in serving the country is not based on which political party you belong to.

None of these men absolutely had to lose their portfolios. They resigned as members of their political party that's all. That doesn't mean that they, as individuals couldn't earnestly still do their jobs.

Our political climate in the BVI is still so immature and juvenile. We have a long way to go!
