DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has encouraged residents of the Virgin Islands to report recent returnees to the police if there is a suspicion they may have entered the Virgin Islands (VI) illegally.

Speaking at the Friday’s June 19, 2020, House of Assembly (HoA) sitting, Hon Malone said reports can also be made if those individuals break the COVID-19 quarantine requirements.

“If you have a concern as to whether a recent returnee has entered the Territory through legal channels and complied with quarantine requirements, you may register this concern by dialling 311 and reporting the names of the persons to the Police for verification with Public Health authorities,” Hon Malone said.

The Minister’s advice comes following reports that some self-quarantined returnees have been breaking their 14-day quarantine requirement which resulted in government halting the self-quarantine option altogether.

Hon Malone also reiterated earlier calls for the wider VI community to resist any and all forms of COVID-19 stigma and discrimination against persons who may have recently returned to the Territory.

He said as several countries throughout the world reopen their economies, "those countries in some instances are bracing for a second wave of infections" and warned that the VI is not yet "out of the woods," regarding COVID-19.

Violators should be jailed and fined $5000 minimum plus expenses . These self entitled persobs have ruined it for the hard working people waiting ti return home and who pay more in taxes , permits , and fees than any local . The law should apply to ALL PEOPLE regardless of their last name or vote

Where are these violator(S) and why haven’t they been fined? We talk talk talk, and have yet to put action to it. There were security, yet violation happened? It’s either there were no violations, or violators are well connected.

Make an example of the ones that break the law or are they your friends or family.
Why must Peter pay for Paul.
You need to leave the job if you can’t handle it for someone who can and stop being so vindictive.
One day you might need these same people you are punishing.
    May God help you.
