ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The duo of Akeem Robinson and Clyde Potter Jr. walked away with the cash prize of $250.00 after defeating Kings of the Sands' tournament favourites Drexel Glasgow and Canice Marquis in straight sets: 21-18/21-13 at the weekend.

The inaugural tournament, which will be followed by a women’s event on December 15, 2012, was hosted by Play to Win Sports Store and held at the Lambert Beach Hotel.

In the Final, Akeem Robinson had 7 Aces, 7 Kills, 7 serves, 17 Digs, whilst Clyde Potter Jr. returned stats of 3 Aces, 5 Kills, 5 Serves, and 15 Digs. Drexel Glasgow: 3 kills, 14 serves, 24 Digs, Canice Marquis: 2 Kills, 19 Serves and 22 Digs.

The team of  Glasgow and Marquis were clearly exhausted after coming up against Frandie Martin and Neville Brathwaite in the semi-final, which lasted 3 exhilarating sets, while the eventual winners only played one full game prior to meeting them in the finals.

In that semi-final game, Martin and Brathwaite pushed Glasgow and Marquis all the way before going down to a 2-1 defeat. Glasgow recorded 9 Kills, 13 Serves, 49 Digs, 1 Block and Marquis 9 Kills, 26 Serves and 52 Digs.

Martin had 4 Aces, 6 Kills, 6 Serves, 23 Digs and 3 Blocks while Brathwaite registered 1 Ace, 9 Kills, 6 Serves, 15 Digs and 1 Block.

From a pool of 9 teams, only 8 were represented and 7 games played in the Tournament’s  single elimination format with Dion Crabbe & Father Mr. Crabbe receiving a two set forfeiture against Curtis Davis and Kevin Mercer. Only one of whom was ready at game time.

In the second game of the day, team Clarence Malone and Alberto Ovalles lost to Robinson and Potter Jr. 15/11, 15/13. Next was the pair of Eric Brathwaite (an on the spot draft) and Anghel George who went up against Martin and Brathwaite, losing 11/15, 13/15.

The final preliminary round game was contested between Clyde Potter Sr. and Jeanty Maurouse who lost to Glasgow and Marquis 5/15, 9/15.
