ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has tonight Friday, August 14, 2020, announced that effective today, the Virgin Islands (VI) has moved to revoke business and other territorial curfews imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister made the official announcement during a live COVID-19 update broadcasted tonight on social media, television and radio.

COVID-19 cases in VI remained low - Hon Malone

Hon Malone said that the decision came after careful consideration even as COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the region, but remained relatively low in the VI with just 9 confirmed cases, inclusive of 1 death.

He said a measured approach to COVID-19 will continually be employed by the Ministry of Health, as more persons attempt to enter the territory.

"I am pleased to report that after careful consideration by Cabinet, the curfew has now been fully lifted, in border... so we have internal re-lifting of our curfew and our agencies are processing towards implementing the second phase of the restricted border re-opening plan," Hon Malone said.

Imposition of a Curfew (No. 25) Order, 2020 revoked

With curfew eased, it means that the July 30, 2020, previous Curfew order (No. 25) of 2020 has been revoked in the Gazette having expired on August 13, 2020, ending a long list of COVID-19 control measures.

Businesses or establishments in the territory can now operate beyond midnight hours, however, they must do so while observing the COVID-19 health protocols.

Those protocols include insuring customers and employees wear a face mask, the practising physical distancing in stores, and the use of sanitisation stations for washing of hands before entry into local establishments.

The wild animals is on the loose again in the BVI. Don’t put the cages away so soon because they are going to be needed when Ms. Corona stops by for a visit.

Was this done just to show off on our neighbours who are implementing a stay at home order? I have seen nothing of us Caribbean brethren and leaders taking this as an opportunity to unite and share and exchange plans. Instead, I have seen segregation and tearing apart of the last of the bond left in the community. I am sick of the hatred and pettiness in the world today and of the leaders that thrive on the nonsense!
