ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the ongoing debate regarding the integrity of Police Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), Commissioner of Police David Morris urged his officers to tender their resignation if they know to themselves that they cannot uphold the high professional and ethical ideals expected of them.

He was speaking as a guest on the 'Straight Talk' radio talk show heard on ZBVI 780 AM on Wednesday September 3, 2014 and hosted by Donald E. De Castro.

Prompting the discussion into the issue, host De Castro spoke of something he witnessed in Road Town where a Police patrol vehicle was breaching traffic laws. He asked the Police Commissioner how it is that the public could hold the Police as good examples in light of such infringements by members of the Force.

Commissioner of Police Morris agreed with De Castro, saying that the breaches by the officers are not good as the public looks on.

“When [myself and my senior officers] talk to officers we talk to them about their role in the society in terms of the fact that the community looks to us. We are a community service…although we are a Police Force, in my view policing is a service. It is a public service. Now how can we enforce the law and serve the community if we are breaking the law ourselves?” he asked.

“That ranges from small and minor as you mentioned right through to breaking the law and committing offences etc.,” he said.

“You become a Police Officer because you want to make a positive difference in your community, in your society. If you can’t do that then you shouldn’t be a Police Officer. I am quite frank with my officers, if you cannot make a positive difference in your community, be professional, be dedicated, be a role model, treat people with respect, treat people with integrity, have ethical standards, don’t be a Police Officer. Resign. I will accept your resignation,” he said.

Governor John S. Duncan OBE has recently been petitioned by over 50 percent of the Force to launch an external investigation regarding allegations of corruption in the RVIPF.

If you really are a police officer then at the very least write proper English. Presumably you mean to say "Let him resign first". If a police officer cannot speak or write very basic English in an English speaking country then by definition such person is not fit to be a police officer. This is very much a "no brainer".

Things happening right under his nose and he's turning a blind eye and you want to ask officers to resign. Are you any better? The toughest thing to deal with is not those who commit crimes but rather those who stand by and do nothing about it.

@police officer, west end, your very comment sells you out, it makes a lot of us know exactly who you are and what is sad about it is that you are a senior officer who should know better and do better but instead you are joining with junior officers to drag the police force into the gutter but we all know you have your own personal agenda, you are very ill discipline and out of order. You feel no one can talk to you, it's either your way or no way at all but people like you should retire yourself from the force in the interest of the public because the force will do much better without people like you. You have a personal beef with the management of the force but you should take such matters to the God you professing instead of causing disaffection in the force

Wow.......You are right. We should always take matters to the God that we are professing. This is not just a message to west end officer but to all of us. Let it be though that we take it to the only God that has us breathing moment by moment. The one that causes us to have life today. Praises be to the Most High God who sent his Son to redeem us and who inspired men by His holy spirit to record his word in the 66 books of the Bible. Jah is his name.

Is because you your self don't like high standard the is why you make this fool comment. the chief of police respect you the police officer but it is because of your interpretation wrong one if i may say so why you are trying to be have naive to the fact that he is trying to bring the force to perfection. and it is you that make such foolish comment dont want to see the force move in a positive direction. fool take correction and move with changes you have been static for too long. get on board or resign that the deal take it are you resign.

"Drag the police force down the gutter"? How much further can it go when you all want to put the Commissioner job in the hands of a known domestic violence perpetrator. Go sit down and hush. Too much dirtiness going on in that force.

Well my guess is as good as yours as to who this person who blog name as police from west end. Lots of officers even retired ones live in that direction and non officers also. Think of it you have to be there actually to know who this person or be a guesser just like me. Again I am guessing that you're one of the shoeshine boys who's gained entry into the exclusive club that is why you blowing so hot. Deal with the issue at hand ma boi and stop your diversion. Just as you and I are not using our real name does not make the point raised or the opinion any less valid. If you're in charge then those subordinates then it is only fair that you should bear some responsibility when those you chose to crown in glory messed up. Then again who is charged with appraising all them top brass if any such thing is done at all? How do you go about assessing how well he, they, them are doing?

Police Officer, RVIPF you are an instigator!! You hide behind a blog name to cast aspersions at the innocent in an attempt to injure. Anyone could say they are police officer west end maliciously. Someone else can say police officer jost van dyke, or police officer cane garden bay, or police officer virgin gorda. But does that mean that it is really a police officer from that station?? Your strategy is weak and points to who you are. You may very well be the same person who talks and laughs with the person you are trying to malign but to be malicious you say police officer west end. You are, to say the least, pathetic!!. You are repulsive in your wickedness. I know what you are trying to do. But you are a coward and a reproach in your undertakings. You attack the religious belief of the innocent and beam in your eye!!. A very loyal and honest man you attempt to ridicule but many readers of your blog who are real police officers saw through your repulsive attempt at casting aspersions at a good, hard working, honest and admirable senior officer!! Now go and pray for your sins.

All of you who are wallowing in self-pity and playing victim need to take a hike. You are victims of your own circumstances. Many among us do not want to improve, we want positions but do not want to do what it takes to attain them. You could be a 'born-here' ten times over if you are not qualified and capable of doing the job why do you think you are entitled to it. We want productivity, performance and results not empty chatter about who should get what. Many of us who are talking about us not getting what we deserve are the very same ones trying to keep down each other either (BVIslanders or Expats) in the name of politics, nepotism and cronyism. When it's our family or close friend or acquaintance it is okay but when it is someone else we cry foul. We are always finding some foolish reason to support our entitlement mentality. There are many BVIlanders who are working hard to achieve but they are overshadowed by the few who are waiting in the wings for hand outs. Start liking yourself and you might be surprised to see the results.

Stop following those politicians who are helping to perpetuate this sick mindset in an effort to attain power and control. They were there and failed miserably and now want to come back as serious-minded, trustworthy men of valor. Wasted money, time and other resources made us vastly more indebted and now trying to be reincarnated as astute politicians and statesmen. They seem to have a 'plaster for every sore' but cannot come with the cure. Clueless! Wolves in sheep's clothing is what they are and they know who they are. It would take more than a few years to remove those stains. Oh please my people forgive my past and let us look to the future. Won't work at all. Even the small man has to try to pul his weight not depend on government largesse.

You smell like a Cop. Stop speading rumors and causing sedition. The COP did not say that. You deliberately ommitted "minor" before traffic issues, because it plays well within your plan. You are free to speak but stop tell it as it is and please..please do not do so in the name of the good people of our territory.

A whole lot of police officers on here blogging and are so happy to know this investigation is ongoing. They appear to be disgruntled with the officers who had balls and signed the petition but behind close doors they rejoicing. Set of hypocrites! It is long time the public crying about corruption in the RVIPF and now strong officers with backbone and intestinal fortitude took a stand your all come on here hiding behind false names. When all is said and done and the bad apples are weeded out, you the fake cops will benefit because of the ones who took a stand. The officers exercised their civil, constitutional and democratic rights. The cop said they are bush lawyers, but I am glad bush lawyers had the balls to demand that Mr Morris respond to them and that he must. I am also glad that the bush lawyers are intelligent, brave and knowledgeable about the law and natural justice or the COP will still be saying he looking into the alleged corruption in the RVIPF!!! Way to go Mr Chairman!!! This is epic! This is history!!
