ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Responding to calls made by residents for the reinstating of ‘Super Cop’ Glen Callwood, host of the popular talk show ‘Speak Your Mind’ Mr Julio ‘Sam’ Henry has drafted a petition to be signed by residents to be sent to the Commission of Police, Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Mr. David Morris.

On the live talk showed aired last Saturday night, February 8, 2014, a number of issues were discussed including the once secret Port Agreement document, water and sewerage’s faulty billing system and whether Officer Glen Callwood should be reinstated. The Callwood issue took dominance.

Magistrate Velon John had found Callwood guilty of indecent assault for grabbing the penis of a man at the Road Town Police Station.

Mr Henry said that it all started after someone called into the programme and give his support to Callwood, “The caller said that he is missed, since he has been gone traffic violations and infractions have gone through the roof.”

He said that he decided to write a petition and ask viewers to visit mellow mood cafe starting today Monday February 10, 2014, to offer their support and sign the petition. Several persons did not take a liking to Commissioner of Police Mr David Morris’ allegedly indicating that an internal investigation would determine whether Callwood will return to his substantive post in the RVIPF.

The Petition

“We, the concerned citizens of these beautiful British Virgin Islands hereby sign this petition on behalf of Officer Glen Callwood. We request that Officer Glen Callwood be reinstated into the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force. We request that the Commissioner thoroughly examine the facts and outcome of the case against Officer Glen Callwood and also take into consideration the magistrate’s recommendation to reinstate Officer Callwood into the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force. We are of sound mind and in good judgment that officer Callwood is a tremendous asset to the RVIPF. Statistics will show that crime, or potential crime is on the rise since the absence of officer Callwood. We sign this petition with a clear mind and understanding of the matter at hand”

CoP David Morris can face another law suit

On February 6, 2014 Police Officer Glen Callwood had expressed that the Magistrate’s Court issued a fair decision considering all that had transpired with his reprieve.

He had expressed that he was prepared to go back to do his work, something that he loved and did with a passion.

However when contacted last evening by this news site Mr Callwood said that the matter is currently in the hands of his lawyer and as such would not say more.

Commissioner David Morris has had a number of his own Police Officers bringing legal action against him for the alleged violation of their rights during his short tenure in the appointed position. He was appointed to the position effective September 1, 2013.

sue him for what, what is wrong with you people, the guy got convicted for indecent assault, how the hell he suppose to be reinstated as a police officer, all you sick in all you head man, that petition would mean nothing, if that happens, any other officer who gets convicted before a magistrate will have to be reinstated as well, now Mr Morris make it clear, when they sue, the only sue the office he represents, which is the commissioner of police, the attorney general is who have to do all the work, Morris just seat back and relax, it don't bother him a cent.

What the BVI needs to know is that Morals and Standards need to be upheld in this crazy country by someone....Callwood is a l....c and a s..w-off!!!! He does his job but honestly he is out of control with it...What he was in court for was wrong and to the fact that he was found guilty, he should be looking another job....Where in the world does someone walk back into a job JUST LIKE THAT after a guilty verdict....You Tortola people need to wake up and smell the coffee....You'll embrace alot of non-sense and thats why the country is so crazy...The Police force just needs to make THEIR OTHER OFFICERS more PROACTIVE and get them into the Streets more....Morris is doing the right thing and you people need to know that...

Rightfully by law if a civil servant especially an officer who is to up hold the law is fined Guilty aren't they suppose to be release from their duties as an officer or civil servant?........Yes i agree Callwood aka "Super Cop" did an outstanding job as an officer.....however, right is right wrong is wrong........if i am a civil servant doing a superb job and found guilty of a crime would their be a petition out for me to get back my job too based on work performance and not my guilty verdict? If it applies to one it should then apply to all.........

Sam you are dead wrong and should not encourage negative behavior. While he may be a good cop none of us is above the law. Personally I think the Judge sent the wrong message. If he is known for upholding the law then he should be held to the highest standard of the law.

If procedures are in place at the Royal Virgin Islands Police, we should all expect these rules should be followed.

Example if he is a pervert or child molester and the judge said "ok you get a slap on your hand, we gonna find you guilty but not put it down on the record" Should the school board not still take measures and follow the rules that would protect the integrity and safety of the children at that school.

Don't be so blind with born in the BVI that you ignore common sense and disregard the rules that are in place for everyone.

I am no big fan of Callwood but when u really look at it since he is not around, in the town area alot of people are doing what they want, u see people parking all over the place, bad driving, cell phone in hands, no seat belts and all kind of other things because they know Super Cop aint gonna pop up on them. So I am in full support of this movement just because it might just be my life or ur life he will save once reinstated.

Mr. Callwood is no 'supercop'. According to the court, he is a felon. Instead of campaigning for Mr. Callwood, your energy might be much better utilized campaigning for other cops to do what they are being paid to do.

Where are the petitions for better schools? Where are the petitions on behalf of hungry kids here in the BVI? Where are the petitions for better roads? Accountability? Transparency? Sam to take a damn seat for godsake. If you running for elections just say so and cut the s..t out. The Police announced that this will be handled internally in accordance with their rules and regulations. Just let the thing play out and stop trying to play judge or jury. No petition can override the Police regulations. Ya'll sickening in this country, anything for a 5 mins of fame. SMH.

A lot of people (myself included) would like to see supa cop reinstated. However, most of us would also prefer that this incident had never occurred!

As an officer of the law, he cannot go around doing what he did! He was found guilty in a court of law. The police chief MUST do what is required (by policy) to ensure the safety of the public and part of that is to ensure that their officers are of good character and good conduct. If Mr. Callwood's conviction affects his employment status with the police force, then so be it. Either way, I think it is ridiculous that anyone thinks a petition should take precedence over proper procedure.

I personally hope Mr. Callwood gets his job back, but if not, perhaps his termination will serve as a reminder to other officers that it is their job to maintain the peace and show respect for others at all times. Grabbing someone's crotch is NOT the kind of dignified behaviour anyone would expect from an officer of the law!

In any case, I think it is ridiculous that anyone thinks a petition could or should take precedence over proper police procedure. Commissioner Morris, do whatever it is that you MUST do in order to fulfill YOUR job requirements and the department's policies and procedures. Don't let the noise keep you from doing your job.

Because he one of us BVIlander he above law? I don't think so. Imagine he get away with this the stuff he going to do because he was already out of control. As for parking violations, we can't park because store owners and workers take parking right in front of store then put ladders and cones out to protect their parking. Wouldn't you want customers to be able to park at your store. We are so backwards with everything. Its a wonder we made it this far.

Well this hS gong unnoticed for years and it hS surely become a norm but it is an offence to put objects on the government road and no store owner have any moral right to put any object on the government road this is absolute nonsense

oh oh every police officer must show some kind of integrity and act like a gentleman in his work place the majistrate pointed out the seriousness of the offence mr callwood should be in prison for five years but was convicted and was ordered to pay the sum of 100.00 oh la la this was done to illustrate to all servants that they must obey the guidelines set before them before they become a civil servant therefore if he was convicted the truth and justice has played out perhaps this would have to go to the appeal court and that means more expenses to the government and people of the bvi.should people who steel money as a civil servant should be allow to be re-employed or the police officer who was brought to answer charges of rape or theft should be re-instated I think if Mr. callwood get back his job there would never be another shaken of hands for the defendant in a public court majistrate you did a very good job; I think he should start making application to lime and petty for a job to distribute e-mails and telegrams
