ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Efforts made by the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) to educate the people of the Virgin Islands (VI) on how to conserve energy and money was a success as residents came out in their numbers to be schooled on ways to keep more money in their pockets.

Speaking to a worker of the BVIEC, he stated that the event was well attended and the patrons were well informed with all their questions answered.

Persons who visited the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement yesterday June 8, 2012, for the BVIEC National Conservation Day, were taught very effective ways to save energy through many household appliances.

Workers of BVIEC demonstrated to the viewers the difference between a Plasma television and a LED television. The viewers were informed on which television consumes the most energy.

Consumers were also shown the difference between a florescent bulb and other power saving bulbs, where they saw firsthand which one saves the most energy.

One viewer exclaimed that it is amazing to see that all the bulbs gave off the same amount of light but one saves way more energy than the other.

Speaking to an attendee of the event, Veriel Mathews, she stated that the event was very informative and educational. She added that based on the calculations and the demonstrations shown, “if it is for real it would be great.”

Ms. Mathews said that she was able to learn many things that she wasn’t aware of and she is always onboard to be involved in saving energy.

She informed this news site that she is an advocate of conserving energy and she has already begun the challenge initiated by the BVIEC to save energy and money within the home.

Private businesses such as Alternative Energy System, Atlantis Solar VI and Bargain Centre also partnered with BVIEC where they promoted and demonstrated their ‘green’ products to the public.

Energy conserving products such as light bulbs and washing machines were also on sale at the event.
