ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Jamaican native with Belonger status, Nickail Chambers, 25, who was arrested in relation to a shooting incident on Fort Hill, Tortola on June 22, 2017 has been charged with Attempted Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Injure.

The unemployed 25-year-old Chambers of Lower Estate was today, July 12, 2017, placed before Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards at the Magistrate’s Court where bail was refused.

Repeat offender

The young man, who is being represented by attorney Stephen R. Daniels, was denied bail on the grounds that he is a repeat offender who has a list of some seven charges under his belt, starting in 2009, including that of rape, theft, and possession of a controlled drug.

Added to that, the alleged firearm used in the shooting has not yet been recovered and police have not been able to locate the complainant Corey Prince.

And according to the Crown, the shooting incident, first reported by this news site, was caught on surveillance camera and police allegedly have a video of Mr Chambers firing a weapon in the direction of Mr Prince.

Chambers reportedly turned himself in to police on July 10, 2017.

It was stated that on the day in question, Chambers and Prince, who were friends since primary school, got into an argument at a scooter rental establishment on Fort Hill and Chambers left the scene but subsequently returned and began discharging a firearm at Mr Prince, who fled the scene.

Chambers is to return to court on September 29, 2017.

When a person is granted belonger status it is a privelidge and carries the obligation to be a productive citizen. I allways understood it could be revoked by the govrrnment if you do not behave and commit crimes. We have enough problems with people born here doing crime. If he is a jammy he should have his status revoked and sent back after he does his time.

The only police we have in the RVIPF are traffic revenue collecting police, they cant even solve a missing gun case much less murder or anything else.

Once these little hoodlums realize that their crimes are being caught on camera, they will start to think twice before they act like fools. Let's install more cameras throughout our communities.

What is more frightening, is that he feels comfortable trying to kill someone whom he been his friends with from primary school. What could be so hurtful that he could not think it over? It is really sad to see that these youngsters do not know anything about love and forgiveness and peace. Lord please have mercy on us all.

Let us all live in love and harmony please.
