ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI [Post Time 10:44 PM] – Emancipation Festival 2017 has come to an abrupt end as all events that were yet to be staged have now been officially cancelled.

The confirmation has come this evening August 8, 2017 by the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC).

In the official statement released moments ago, the VIF&FC stated that the decision was made following the assessment of damages incurred as a result of the recent flash flood but was also based on consultation with the BVI Disaster Management on the projected weather forecast for the Territory.

Cancelled Events

Some of the activities that were scheduled to take place that are now cancelled includes, this evening's August 8, 2017 opening of the East End Festival Village, tomorrow's August 9, 2017 Rise and Shine Tramp in East End and this weekend's Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta that was expected to run from Friday August 10, 2017 starting with the Fisherman's Tourament and opening ceremony and to end on August 12, 2017 which would have brought down the curtains on the 2017 Festival celebrations.

The release further states that information will be given in the upcoming weeks on an event that will feature the artistes that were set to perform in the East End and Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta.

I agree cancel it for the next ten years and use the money to do other things like building and maintaining proper schools, roads, healthcare system etc.

Add another ten years for every person that disagrees.... bam

Very good decision indeed. Now just like how we all was coming together to fete and rejoice, we need to come together as one and help our neighbor. We are our brother's keeper. God neither slumber nor sleep. How can some of us talk about wanting to sail on and fete and want dates to be postponed when our neighbor's boat is Sinking. Thy will be done Lord.

Let us all put aside the differences that we have against each other and band together and get our Island back together. We all have been affected and we have to come together and give each other a helping hand.

Carrot Bay activities should remain as should others, if the weather allows it from this point.

Cancel everything. Carrot bay too. The place is in a mess. Everything that god do never wrong. You see the rain came, people house got flooded, business places ect. But no one lost their life, no one. We have to be thankful. Nothing wrong if the whole festival get cancelled. Places need to back in order, placed to clean up etc etc.

Sometimes god test us to see what we would do in certain situation. All this rain and still want to party. We must respect god.

I am so thankful only my yard got flood out. This morning I made sure to check on my elderly neighbor to make sure she has water and food for the day. Please check on your neighbors and see if they are ok. It is a great blessing that no one lost their lives.
