PORT OF SPAIN, T&T - Torrential rainfall fueled by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affected all fourteen Municipalities on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

The most severely impacted was the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.

Prolonged overnight rains caused flooding in the Quinam area.

One family of seven persons has been evacuated to a nearby school for the night, as three feet of water entered and surrounded their home. They are expected to return to their home tomorrow when the water subsides.

In the region of Sangre Grande, the Oropune River is near creating point, and there have been reports of street flooding. No household flooding has been reported in that vicinity.

The Princes Town Disaster Management Unit has reported river swells coming from the Moruga area. These swells are likely to affect the Penal/Debe region tomorrow.

The fourteen (14) Disaster Management Units continue to monitor the weather and resulting effects, and are ready to respond to any reports received. Citizens are reminded to take the necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and protect property.

The following communities have been affected:

Sangre Grande Regional Corporation

• Street flooding reported along Adventist Street, Vega de Oropouche, La Siva, North Oropouche, Felmina Tobal Road, Fishing Pond Road and Guy Trace, with some homes impacted in these areas.

• One report of a blown off roof

• One report of structure collapse

Penal/Debe Regional Corporation

• Flooding reported along Penal Rock Road, Clarke Road, Rochard Road, Derrick Road, Lalbeharry Trace, Pluck Road, Sumani Trace, Seemungal Trace, Dookie Street, Chester Street, and Aquart Village.

Siparia Regional Corporation

• Reports of flooding in San Francique, Quarry Village, and South Oropouche

• Seven reports of household flooding

• One report of a collapsed structure in Bamboo Village, Cedros.

Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation

• Street flooding reported in Ferry Road, Carapo. Tumpuna Road South between Manuel Congo and San Rafael Junction currently impassable for low vehicles. Commuters advised to seek alternate routes.

• Landslides reported in Aripo in the vicinity of the 10-mile mark and on Riverside Road, which has resulted in the partial collapse of a house.

• No adverse reports received from residents of Greenvale, Oropune, Kelly Village, Caroni or St. Helena at this time.

Couva Tabaquite Regional Corporation

• Reports of street flooding in Las Lomas (Harkoo Trace), Esmeralda Road, Cedar Hill Road, Claxton Bay

• The Tortuga landslip that was reported earlier today is being managed by the Ministry of Works and Transport with the assistance of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation

Princes Town Regional Corporation

• Reports of street flooding at Rochard Douglas Road, Oropouche South Trace, Gilbert Trace, Teelucksingh Trace in Barrackpore, and Kent Street in Williamsville.

Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation

• Street flooding was reported earlier in the day, but has since subsided

Point Fortin Borough Corporation

 • Street/Flash flooding observed along Techier Main Road, Techier Link Road, Savannah Road, Guapo Main Road, New Village, August Joseph Road. No reports of household flooding.

San-Juan Laventille Regional Corporation

• Reports of Landslides in Champ Fleurs and Maitgual are engaging the attention of the San Juan Laventille Disaster Management Unit.
