SEA COW’S BAY, Tortola, VI – Championship winning horse Really Up Town of L&B Racing Stables has been put to sleep following a foot injury suffered in yesterday’s Boxing Day December 26, 2014 races at Ellis Thomas Downs, Sea Cow's Bay, Tortola.

Speaking to this news site today December 27, 2014, a horse owner whose horse competed in the races yesterday confirmed with us that Really Up Town had to be euthanized due to the extent of the injury.

“The horse Really Up Town is the one they had to put to sleep yesterday,” said the source, who was at the track yesterday and close to the situation. “It was due to a foot injury,” he said.

A relative of owner Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge, who did not want to be named, confirmed to this news site that the Really Up Town was put to sleep yesterday following the race and that the reason was the extent of the foot injury. The relative confirmed too that Hodge was away from the Territory.

Really Up Town is the first horse to win the Triple Crown and the Governor’s Cup in the same year - achieving both in 2013.

      @Animal Cruelty:

      I agree 1000%, let us hope that someday our people will wake up. Sadly there are too many uncaring people living in the BVI.

    Could the horse have lived and not raced? The horse surely deserved that much. I don't understand how a goot/leg injury leads to euthanasia. Can someone please explain. Surely the fact that it could never race again be the only reason.

      "The problem is, because their bones have become lighter, esp thoroughbreds". "They're very strong, to carry their weight, yet they're light, for them to be able to go fast. So, unfortunately, sometimes, when they break, their bones just shatter.

    @guest I can't spell but here me answer (was death the onlyoption) if the foot was broken yes it was because horses and donkey dont have marrow in there bones so if any bone brake it will not mend
