ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After taking an interval of close to three years, ‘Real Talk with Karia J. Christopher’ is back, and this time 10 women who have positively shaped the landscape of the Virgin Islands (UK) will be in the limelight, beginning four days before Christmas-December 20, 2016.

The show, a one hour, two-month series, will be aired on CBN channel 51, and streamed on social media Facebook and YouTube. It will begin at 7:00P.M. every Tuesdays and repeated on Thursdays at 8:00 P.M.

In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, Christopher explained that the idea came to her over three months ago and about five weeks ago, she conducted a survey and persons within the community were given the opportunity to select the women.

Opportunity to highlight VI women

The show itself had been in existence for over 13 years prior to the pause.

“I took a break from the series but I really, really missed it but I was encouraged by many, many persons to come back, so I am back with a series coined ‘The Virgin Islands 10 most influential and inspiring women’ and I saw that as a wonderful opportunity to highlight Virgin Islands ladies for 2016,” she said.

The Real Talk host noted that the ten women who will be in the series were chosen by the community following a survey conducted about five weeks ago.

She said her inspiration for the show stemmed from the US Presidential Candidate Hillary R. Clinton who could have been the first female to hold that post, as well as her two daughters and other women, and her wanting to provide an avenue for inspiration for them.

“It is a very positive series… I really believe that we should inspire young women to be the best that they can. So for me it is important that I show my girls that anything is possible, so part of that will be able to hear somebody else’s story specifically a woman so that they can hear the stories and be inspired, hopefully others can hear the story and be inspired, and once young persons are empowered from very young, they feel that they can do anything in the world.”

Public involvement critical

“I have had people call and emailed and text suggesting women, and we are so happy with the positive response that we have had so far. I would like to ensure that those interviews are indicative of what the people of the Virgin Islands feel and not what Karia Christopher feels. So I did a survey with 250 persons, really asking them who inspired them and who influenced them in their lives. But I also felt that we could be broader, so I have put out a post on her Facebook page where I have gotten literally hundreds of comments and suggestions,” she informed.

While not giving away any hints as to who these women from all walks of life will be, she said some choices will be criticised, however, it was as a result of the requests made more than 10 times and importantly, the nominees were in agreement.

“…not everybody is comfortable with television, you may love them and I may love them too but at the end of the day, they must agree that this is something that they want to do,” she stated.

Nominations for women still open

Want to hear an influential woman’s story? It’s not too late to let your voices be heard. Go to Real Talk with Karia J. Christopher on Facebook and nominate that woman! In the meantime, watch out for the Real Talk resumption this December 20, 2016 on CBN Channel 51.

she needs to stop giving people such a hard time in getting their trade license. No one in the bvi should have to wait almost two years to get a trade license.

The real champions are the educated(not necessarily collegiated-there's a difference)selfless mothers whether working or stay at home who make sure home, husband(if any) and children are taken care of on a daily basis. The reflection of their hard work is shown by their children's unembarrassing mannerisms in public and at home from proper upbringing, her family's state of wellbeing and health being a core concern for her and a woman who walks hand in hand with and while elevating her companion. Spiritual and humble enough to realise there is someone bigger than her(God)She is one to be admired for laying the moral bricks for her generation making the world a better place even after she has passed on. Hats off to all the unkept hairs and tired eyes from helping the kids with homework, worn looking clothes because you have invested all your funds into your family and home, accepting a regular job because it allows you time to always smell the roses. Blessings to all my materially unblessed women not because you have to but because you chose to...selflessly.
