Following him was Maccabee, another strong culture artist who gave a good performance of the need to rise up against oppression as a people. Following several minutes of stage, he ended his run with a redo of the Gage dancehall song ‘Dung Inna’, singing instead ‘Dung Inna You Pocket Boy’, a song urging men to support their offspring. Photo: VINO

WICKHAM’S CAY I, Tortola, VI – Despite some early showers last evening March 12, 2016, KT Promotions pulled off a masterful Roots and Culture themed concert headlined by Jamaican reggae superstar Jamar Rolando McNaughton aka Chronixx at Tortola Pier Park, Wickham's Cay 1.

Hosted by Paul ‘Gadiethz’ Peart, the show was not without minor power hiccups which saw about five minutes of everything being offline. However, these were speedily rectified and the local artists all backed by the Alliance Band started their performance.

First up was local culture artist Shine I who gave a good account of himself and connected with the many Rastafarians in the venue. The theme surrounding his lyrics was that black people need to be united.

Following him was Maccabee, another strong local culture artist who gave a good performance of the need to rise up against oppression as a people. Following several minutes of stage, he ended his run with a redo of the Gage dancehall song ‘Dung Inna’, singing instead ‘Dung Inna You Pocket Boy’, a song urging men to support their offspring.

Next was local artist I-Ritical who was very energetic and had the crowd involved as he gave them commands and had them respond to him. The theme of his music was for persons to feel good about themselves.

Next came the highly anticipated performance by Sistah Joyce, the only ‘Empress’ to perform at the show. She had strong support from everyone present but she had a special appeal with the other Rastafarian sisters in the venue.

Sistah Joyce sang her popular songs Cry, Sistah Smokey, Fyah Bun Dem and one of her best known reggae songs, Love Potion to the delight of the crowd.

Chronixx started his campaign at about 1:35 am with Dread and Terrible, with the theme for most of his music being to rise up despite struggle and to shun wickedness. He was backed up by his Zincfence Redemption Band.

Being called the second coming since Robert Nesta Marley, it is easy to see why the artist is so highly rated as his lyrics and vibes seem to flow from a deep inspiration.

He went on to perform his hit tunes Nah give up, They don’t know, Jah wake me up this Morning, Jah Jah never give I more than I could bear, Smile Jamaica and his highly anticipated Here Comes Trouble.

It is clear that persons who paid their $35, (or $40 at the gate) made an investment which paid off and will continue to do so as the lyrics and their messages – not just from Chronixx but all the artists – will be a source of inspiration and encouragement for persons going through a struggle of any nature.

@ NDP; I agree with you 100% ....a place like that should have some jazz type settings where some of the old-school crew could out enjoy a good evening with family and friends: this heap of ragamuffin all over the place ..but I am happy to know the young VI Lander stands to make his legal money....

The facility is not only meant for those who enjoy jazz. I'm sure jazz promoters are welcome as well. The park belongs to every segment of BVI society.

How do you have the heart to call people ragamuffin....pity your criticism as you are sure worthless than who you have pointed fingers too....Jqzz or reggae is music for the soul...negative people will always be out and its their choice to keep the peace along with all of us. Because the first was a reggae and culture show to hit the park no need to showcase your jealousy....in the years kt been putting on shows theyve always been worthwhile...comment and chat sense....its called geylt a clean up crew any show brings garbage people litter everyday...jazz can be next whats the hiccup..thats why people react in a rebellious way because its people like you that fail to.listen to lyrics and your ears are fixed on propaganda....#immaturity #giveroomforgrowth....lovely show...

This was an excellent show with lots of great local talent and an exceptional performance by the head liner. Even in the dark this artist vibes shines through that night like a beacon of hope and love for humanity. Very worried that BVI Landers would not show up in number but despite the showers and down pours people came out in numbers. Everyone seem to have a great time!!! Knew very little about the artist before the performance but he was Great! The production was also impressive. While I agree jazz would be nice, why would anyone think reggae should not be in the venue is beyond me.

Congrats to Kenny and his hard working crew

I'm not trying to deprive anyone of a job but a place like that need police security if private businesses need their personal security let them do that. We have to maintain our pride and our beauty and our investment.

I'm agree. Being to St Marten its Arm Police I saw at the port being to St kitts its Arm Police I saw at the Port. This is too important to us and our economy. We need to take security serious.

All you naysayers were obviously not in attendance. This was the most organized well prepared concert I have been to here. And the next morning the park was PERFECT as the cruise ship pulled in. Great 2 hours nonstop Chronixx. Sound excellent. Businesses protected. Clean restrooms. And so worth the money

The security were on patrol in 3's . We dont need police 4 this type of show we are not that kind of ppl. Those places are often in the newa with some terrible headlines. Only our task force have guns. Blessed BVI ppl. Looking fwd 2 enjoying our 83million $ more. This show was righteous & perfect. Loved ot still in the euphoria all till thos day. Bless Love VI love
