Radio show caller blasts political ‘hypocrites’
Calling into the radio show hosted by Douglas Wheatley on February 24, 2015, the caller said that persons are criticising the current government when they did some of the same things they are being critical about.
“One of the things I am concerned about, you know whenever a government is in there are certain practices by each government…it is like copycat practices where one government is in, another government comes in as the new government and they do exactly as the [previous] government did,” he said.
“I find it kind of strange of experienced politicians, politicians who were ministers of government in the past and they actually become critics of the present government, whichever the present government is, on issues which they have been doing themselves,” said the caller.
“It is interesting where you find guys who are not in power making negative comments when they were doing the same thing,” the caller said.
“You are telling me that this government is doing this and doing that but I could remember clearly when you were in power, these things were going on, and it was ok then. So how come at this point in time when it is being done by another government that is in power it is not ok anymore?” he asked.
Cruise pier probe should not be contaminated by old issues
In response to the caller, Wheatley said that two wrongs don’t ever make a right. “The fact that one government did something that was wrong does not in itself allow another government to commit the same wrong,” he said.
To illustrate his point, he said that one of the things he has a difficulty with is when Governor John S. Duncan OBE pointed out that some of the practices that were flagged in the report out of the Public Accounts Committee and the Auditor General on the cruise pier project had been happening during a previous government.
“I think that they are two separate and distinct things. You are called upon to deal with the cruise pier project and you must subject that to a microscope and see what it is if anything was untoward, then you have to deal with that in and of itself,” he said.
“You can’t contaminate that discussion by saying somebody else did something else. You have to deal with the matter before you…that is a matter that the Public Accounts Committee presented to the Governor,” he said.
“If the Governor feels that errors were committed by another government then that is the subject for another study but do not mix and match them. Deal with what is presented to you and if something else is presented to you deal with that,” said Wheatley.

The case is the case. The governor has cold feet and doesn't want to rock the boat for the current government (who probably has spin masters feeding him) . The point still remains that the cycle of corruption has to stop some place, regardless of past history (which we all agree was corrupt on some level). Stop the cycle. This cruise ship project is huge and will have lasting impact and consequences. It is irreversible unlike traffic lights which can be taken down.
The land side marches forward with overrun and poor architectural design, and the governor doesn't have the courage to just investigate. If nothing is wrong- we find out. But if something was illegal- we should find that out too. Stop the cycle of corruption!!!
