ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As part of the new 'limited and managed' 14 days of curfew coming into effect on Thursday, April 2, 2020, those who are currently under quarantine in the Virgin Islands (VI) will remain in quarantine, according to Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI) H.E. Augustus J.U. Jaspert.

"Cabinet today has put in place, enhanced plans for people subject to quarantine. Currently, that number stands at 143," Governor Jaspert said at a Tuesday, March 31, 2020 press conference live-streamed on the Government of the Virgin Islands Facebook page.

The Governor, along with Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), was at the time making announcements regarding new COVID-19 measures the Territory is taking to safeguard its people.

As part of the new curfew, he said, those in quarantine, "They will, under new legislation, be mandated to stay at home for the full quarantine period."

Penalties for breaking curfew

Governor Jaspert noted that the Deputy Governor, Mr David D. Archer Jr and the Health Emergency Operation Centres (HEOC) are working up arrangements where those in quarantine will be monitored to ensure compliance of staying at home during that full 14-day period.

"And under new legislation, those under quarantine could face penalties if they leave their home or their place of quarantine... those who don't comply put all of us at risk, this is vital to protect the Territory as a whole."

The current 6-day curfew will come to an end on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 6:00am and, according to Premier Fahie, the new curfew will take effect the very next minute at 6:01 am.

These enhanced measures come on the heels of the Territory recording its third imported case of COVID-19 on Monday, March 30, 2020.

So far there have been no reports of community spread.

The ones that are suppose to be in quarantine at home should be strictly monitored. To everyone that is in quarantine, please adhere to the rules. What is better, staying in quarantine or going to jail where I am sure the virus is or about to make itself known.

This is not about protecting us... This is the Agenda of the region tourism ministers to secure and protect the tourism product.. its not about us.... See what i dont understand our main tourism people are Americans and europeans, So we are cleaning up for them to come and mess it up... As long as our effort is about attracring them... We will continue to live in hell...take the leeche off the people....Now we have hurricane season coming up to prepare for... We have more unsolved murder case than Carona case...We didnt put this much effort into solving those cases. We have more moped death than carona case.. Did we ban Moped? If we had this effort into what actually causing death...This is all about exercising power and control... They have the wrong focus

Please 143 of you stay home. Relax you all self and do some self reflection in these quiet times. I am not one of the 143 and I enjoying these peaceful days. The village is sooo nice and peaceful just the waves you hearing, no noise from Vechele, and the police just patrolling. This is just what we as a country needed. A little piece and quiet. Stay safe!

Better late than never but this law should have been introduced 3 weeks ago as that self quarantine without legal requirement did not make any sense. As a result the ports were closed for all incoming and people left stranded. The the lockdown now going into three weeks with lots of people out of work and the economy at a virtual standstill.

Will the ports reopen come 6th April ?

Biggest cover up.. that's the smartest thing anyone has said so far while the government has them fooled about finding a third case.as long as they dont have to tell you who the cases are they could always tell you they found another case, and that will be their excuse for more curfew while they screw the people and make them think they are saving them from a coronavirus that's not really doing what they are lieing to you about while world wide government is covering up the 5G that's about to do the real damage.. real real clowns and programmed robots.
