WICKHAM’S CAY I, Tortola, VI- “Like stress, holding a grudge can lead to serious illnesses,” Seventh-day Adventist preacher Mr Howard Simon told public servants at the Commemoration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work at Breezeway, Central Administration Complex on April 28, 2016.

Mr Howard Simon was speaking about the importance of forgiveness during the activity held under the theme: ‘Workplace Stress- A Collective Challenge’.

“Un-forgiveness is like a cancer-causing agent inside of you, and if you are not willing to forgive you can be committing suicide slowly,” the pastor said, noting that “un-forgiveness is an unwise posture of seeking to hurt one that has hurt you by hurting yourself. It’s like drinking poison slowly…I am taking my own life slowly when I do not forgive.”

Mr Simon’s dynamic presentation was met with keen ears and gestures of approval.

One of the points met with open agreement was that forgiving didn’t mean forgetting.

“Unless you have amnesia, you will not forget,” Mr Howard said. “You need to learn to forgive so it doesn’t affect you today the way it did yesterday. You must not remember it with the animosity of yesterday.”

However, forgiveness, according to the preacher, is hard work. “But it is work worth doing.”

The public officers were also told that forgiveness is a choice.

It was noted by Chief of Medical Staff of the BVI Health Services Authority and Psychiatrist, Dr June Samuel that an increasing number of persons in the Virgin Islands have been seeking psychiatric help for stress related issues.

Noting that she has a vested interest in the subject of work related stress since she is also a practising psychiatrist, Dr Samuel said “we do what we see more and more and we now know that a lot of what we see is related to what is happening in the work place.”

Dr Samuel added that a survey done by an insurance company in the US found that problems at work are more strongly associated with health complaints than any other life stressors. It was also found that stress is more associated with increased error and injuries at work.

Stress has always been toxic. That is the nature of stress. You and stress are alike in that regards.. unwanted and unwelcome toxicity., It has nothing to do with NDP.

The persons in the highest positions in Government is the root of the stress that public servants experience. Blatant disrespect is rampant. that is what Dr. Samuel should address immediately

It’s all under the name of the next most powerful institution on Earth, besides Government. It’s called, Religion. They are the only two (2) Institutions that can collect money and do not have to pay taxes. Religion, on the other hand, is but an institutionalized form of legal exploitation. One of the BIGGEST SCAMS ever created by man to extort money from the poor, again. There are more churches in any poor community that you can find, all sending prayers to some fictitious entity who has never even listened to one thing they have to say, and their circumstances either remain the same or get worse if they themselves don’t rise up and use their brains and two (2) hands that they were born with and do something to change things.

I guess religion solves its purpose for those who desperately need an alternative escape from their reality- so they pay dearly for that- plus 10% of their earnings into a collection plate to their favourite WAR-SHIP (CHURCH).

This preacher is but another stool pigeon, conditioned by the oppressors as a so called- practising psychiatrist. I’m sure he has ALL the remedies for society’s problems of the day- for a Fee. You bet he was paid or promoting his other profession. It’s ALL in the game of self-interest, or he is just as ignorant as all the others.

“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our minds.” And experience how fast the stress releases.

Now, the fictitious entity can not do it for you, so utilize your hands to blow-up the dislike option so some of us can see the level of "ignorance" the slave masters’ teachings have psychologically damaged and have kept our people in “bondage” up to this very day.

Genesis, not the right name for you. You are calling God fictitious?
