ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – While it is not clear whether Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn had anything to do with it, a promotion, VI All Star II, featuring artistes from the US Virgin Islands clashing with artistes from the Virgin Islands was rejected by the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC) from being held in the Rita Francis Festiville.

“We were very disappointed the show was declined from Festival village,” said Public Relations Officer of Five Star Promotions, Akiema D. Brookes.

“A great show filled with Virgin Islands' talent, these artists are putting in their time in their craft and deserve some spot light. Just take Rock City and where they came from, if we don't give our youth this opportunity from now how would we know what they can become?” she stressed.

Hon Walwyn has in the past stated that artistes from the USVI should be banned from performing at Emancipation Festival in the VI since there has been no resolve to having artistes in the VI perform in the USVI without having to get a permit, which is reportedly expensive and takes sometimes months to be processed.

It is not clear, however, whether this matter had anything to do with the show not being allowed in the Rita Francis Festiville.

New venue

Meanwhile, VI All Star II is is set for Thursday July 28, 2016 at Fantasea HotSpot in Duffs Bottom, where several artists, both locals and from the USVI, will be performing. The show will be headlined by the international duo R. City.

“We have put together two All Star groups; one from the BVI starring Boss of Showtime, Jugo of VIBE, Dante of OMG, Tino of Hardcore, Jahleel of relentless, and Mystro of Cool Breeze, and from the USVI we have Shaw from Jammers, Kylo from Stylee, Sisa, BugZ, Rancho, and BDJ,” said Ms Brookes.

Ms Brookes Further explained that each All Star group will be on stage at the same time coming forward to perform their respective songs when selected, something that will be new to the fans. She said the VI group will be backed by Xtreme Band while the USVI group will be backed by Stylee Band.

“Also we have performances by several local Hip Hop artists who are eager to showcase their talent. There will also be a performance where all the rappers will take the stage at the same time. This is slated to be epic,” said Ms Brookes.

Giving back

The promotion is one that will be giving back to the community in a number of ways. According to Ms Brookes, they would be giving one lucky fan the opportunity to go on tour with R. City this weekend in St Thomas and St Maarten.

“To enter the sweepstake you must be 18 and over, with valid passport and purchase VI All Star II tickets from Hazems Beauty Supplies by 4 pm today, July 27, 2016. The drawing is live on Dre show on ZROD today with R.City,” she explained.

Five Star Promotions has also given local female rapper Moneá the opportunity to go on tour with R. City this weekend. “We saw the opportunity was there and we have recognised the effort she has been putting in her craft and we are proud to give her this opportunity,” said Ms Brookes.

VI All Star II starts at 9:00pm on July 28, 2016.

Sponsors for the event include RTW, Travel Wize, Myetts and Native Son Ferry Services.

What is the point of this story. The real question is why is a promoter doing an event during festival. I recall this kind of thing not to be allowed because once the Village is open that is where all activities should be happening during the festival season in effort to support the Village Booths and Performances.

I guess you didn't read the part where it said that they were denied by the Festival Committee to host the night IN the village, similar to how other promoters are given nights in the village....

the village has a promoter..Kenny Thompson I think it is, so why try and hold it there, club fantasy should of been the spot from the very start!

The village should have no damn promoter. This is not a music fest, and others should be given a chance because there are others in the BVI who can promote. I thought Kenny was a member of the BVI festival committee, since I saw him posing with them. I had no idea he was being paid as a promoter.

I want to say to the Reader, u dead wrong!. Our past times had events during festival u might be too young to know this Imaginations, Eddie and the Movements (Jamband), Mandingo Brass, Dread Ones Brass and others from USVI performed here in Tola at events outside of the Village at places like the Great Beach Club Terrance in Baugher's Bay, the Legandary Stone Haven in Purcell, the Blue Moon Disco in East End and the Famous Chucks Drive In in Sea Cow's Bay. Those times were great times and the ppl look forward for these events in the village or not. Why is the Minister dictating who should perform in the village. He's trying to get back at USVI Bands, its not their fault why we can't play in USVI without the proper procedure in place. This is a federal issue, take it up with the Federal Gov't (Washington). Once u do the right thing our bands will perform there. Not trying to put us against them, the majority of persons domicile in USVI are BVIslanders, our Aunts, Uncles and Cousins we are family. If the Minister didn't grow up in Tortola, he probably wont know this. We are one Virgin Islands separated by water and two (2) Flags, but not blood. Do u know that in 1959 America was to buy us from England, for the queen was ready to give us up to USA. It was through heavy negotiations between our the leaders like the late Sir Olva Georges, Mr. Reynold O'Neal, Mr Leslie Maone fight vigorously for us to remain with Britian. So plz Mr. Minister don't throd on the grounds of Adolf Hitler and bring divisiveness between our family and friends from other half of the Virgin Islands. I Thank u.

First of all, you sound stupid as the show is still happening without the "free stage and system".

Secondly, other promoters are given nights in the village, so the real question is, why wasn't this particular promoter given the same opportunity given that they have been holding successful shows? The numbers will speak on Thursday but it could have been a win-win for all.

The answer is easy if you really want to know. Everybody loves to play the victim when they don't get their way.

Some promotors seem to want to piggie back off government paying for lightening and stage during festival. They had all right to tell them scatter.

Too much permission is given for competing events with Festival and Festival Village..Village Week and Festival events should be given priority and every chance of be successful..

Myron, I agree with this. The USVI need to get themselves together. I understand that the BVI artistes need exposure but don't use the BVI to full your pockets. Nonsense. THANK YOU MYRON!

I dnt understand why the committee block this if its bcz of USVI artist. Last time I check Kylo and stylee along with Poizon Band is grom the USVI and they hv village nights in town and also playing East End.

It wasn't because of the USVI artists... the promoter was allowed a night in the village. Full Stop.

Ok noted. Well it has to be something not been stated. Too much drama in this committe cz soca monarch seem like it cant be a village night so how this promoter get a night but still cant use it. We have to much small minded people around here stifling everything.

U sound like a dictator! Either the dictator himself or one of his blind puppets. No one should be made to go to any boring event due to lack of ability to properly promote. The villege boring. case close. if there were smart ppl it would have been allowed in the village but ppl have no clue what will bring a crowd.
