Primetime Band re-branded ‘Primetime Squad’
With other popular beats to their names and stage presence, they are well known for being the ones to back-up compliments for the Virgin Islands’ annual calypso competitions. They feature the ever popular names of Darwin ‘Chick Daddy’ Scatliffe, Dirk L. Walters, Jevaughn J.J. Parsons, Greg W. Adams, Brandon B.J. Harrigan, Deon ‘Buck Wheat’ Williams, Marcus ‘Yungblood’ Mark, Nicholas ‘Nick’ Roberts and Edwin Ryan.
We are talking here about a band that has been around for close to twenty (20) years, ‘Prime Time Band’ and today that band is being rebranded, not deviating far from their original name but just with a little addition. They are now ‘Primetime Squad’.
It’s a band that has been made popular for their songs like Back Brace, Choo Choo, Bernie, Pressure, Tell Me, Eggie Wuk Up among others. Tell me is still quite popular today and one would remember the street guy who had a funny walk after which the band wrote the song ‘Eggie Wuk Up’ this one still is a hit on the airwaves and on the lips of many today.
Since their rebranding they have been successful with the skills and expertise that is encapsulated in one new song so far. This according to one of the key members Mr Greg W. Adams has been done mainly as one of several things they intend to accomplish for the 60th jubilee celebration of the Tortola Emancipation Celebration which is being observed this year.
“We just want to get the word out there to the public that we mean business,” he told Virgin Islands as he along with Darwin ‘Chick Daddy’ Scatliffe and Jevaughn J.J. Parsons sat with Virgin Islands News Online for an exclusive interview recently.
The new ‘Primetime Squad’ ensemble is a blend of some of its original members infused with some new talent. “That’s where the new branding comes in to let people know it’s the same essence with a new twist on it,” according to Mr Adams.
Primetime Squad is a band that focuses primarily soca and calypso music with live performances including reggae as well. As Primetime Band they would have been on and off in terms of them sticking together as a group and one would recall one of their most recent hit which was produced sometime in 2013 called ‘Ride’.
“That (Ride) did pretty well for us and so we decided to just continue with the flow. We are now rebranded and as I we see it there will be no off-time as Primetime Squad, we are now together for the long haul, we going to carry on with the legacy.” said Mr Parsons.
Their newest release is titled, ‘Put on a Show’, the concept of which they feel is very timely for showcasing the Jubilee Emancipation festivities. “We are trying hard to have it released in time to catch the festivals of Virgin Gorda, St Thomas, St John and then ultimately our show which is in August so we feel like it’s appropriate for any festival or Carnival or whatever you celebrate to put on a show,” said Parsons.
‘Put on a Show’ was written and produced by ‘Chick Daddy’ aka ‘Chicken’. “We are working to compose a full CD and that will be the title track as well,” said Adams. Walters has also been the co-producer of the song and it has pretty much all the band members on it.
It is anticipated that the full CD is going to be out sometime by late June early July of this year. “We are encouraging everybody to really ‘Put on a Show’ for Festival this year,” urged Adams.
