ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The frontage of the Central Administrative Complex was a pond of fun, food, fete and peoples of 140 nations that are present in the Virgin Islands (VI) a sight which Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. The Honourable D. Orlando Smith was very happy with.

“This is the 2nd of this event which we call Christmas Around the World because we recognize that there are so many people who from various parts of the world who make up the BVI community that it is important that we get together and share with one another what we do around Christmas so that we could all have a better Christmas here in the British Virgin Islands,” said Premier Smith.

“We also do appreciate what you have done to progress the economy of the BVI. We know that both persons from the BVI and the other islands contribute in one way or the other to the development of the economy of the BVI,” added Premier Smith.

Recognizing that the VI is somewhat of a melting pot for many nationalities, acting Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Premier Mr. Brodrick Penn said that it is important that time is taken around this season to celebrate each other. “It is very important that we learn from each other, very important that we celebrate each other,” he said.

He said that he was impressed with the turnout to yesterday’s Christmas Around the World event. “The diversity among us is what makes the BVI what it is and I believe we should celebrate it and within this time of love, warmth and sharing there is no more appropriate way to do it,” said Mr Penn.

The night was one of a family atmosphere with everyone sharing, greeting and well-wishing as the year 2014 comes to an end and 2015 is anticipated.
