ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith yesterday January 12, 2016 brushed off questions from this media house about the bombshell revelations of former project coordinator of the cruise pier development project Hugh E. Darley.

It was following the launch of a joint venture project between the Government of the Virgin Islands and BVI Airways that the Premier was asked about the Darley disclosures.

“We will be speaking to that issue at a later time, not today,” Premier Smith said.

Darley accuses Premier of censuring Ministers

Darley alleged that during his visit here in December 2015 he had briefly spoken with Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Dr The Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7).

“I briefly spoke to Dr Pickering at the Pier Park. Everyone else ran from me when I approached. I only want to have a settlement discussion. Otherwise I must continue to pursue a more public debate.”

He went on to say that he believes Dr Smith silenced his ministers from speaking with him. “I understand Dr Smith ordered everyone not to speak to me,” he said.

“If they would offer to talk many of my issues could go away but the people's money and lack of transparency will still exist,” Darley stated.

The businessman and project developer had told this news site that the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government had forbidden him from speaking with the members of the Opposition on the project.

Darley, who alleges that the Government of the Virgin Islands owes him money for the use of his designs for the cruise pier project, said he was going to disclose to the international investment community that the VI Government, led by Premier Smith, could not be trusted.

Can you imagine being accused of allegedly committing a crime and the law allows you to investigate yourself? Well that is what this joker is doing for the NDP on the land side corruption allegations. Only Jesus can save this corrupt BVI.

From now on I am an NDP because once you're an NDP you can do wrong & be corrupt without any penalty. The only penalty is when caught the Governor allows you to investigate yourself. Smh.

As a youth that backs no political party I am disappointed with what I am seeing in my country. Any fool can see that corruption is taking place at the Ports project & many other projects like the High School Wall, chineese equipment, hospital, chinese street lights among others & nothing is being investigated by this governor who is trying to run from his constitutional responsibilities to keep friends with the Jones.

Of course the Honorable Dr. Smith would brush off any sort of critical enquiry. Standard advice for any issue in litigation. The real question is when "some other time" will come.

Only in the BVI can a government be accused of corruption & dictate when & how it will be addressed. This is insane!!!

Rather than give both sides the benefit of the doubt and have an thoughtful debate, these bloggers side with someone they know nothing about.

If this man is owed money for legitimate work, he should be paid. Fair is fair. But if he feels he has a claim he should simply take legal action and stop this public nonsense. The fact that he is threatening to bad mouth the government for bad-mouthing sake tells me there is something strange about his claims.

Mr. Darley has given us a brilliantly analytical review of the Ports Project that makes me terribly sad since I knew all along smething was wrong

Questions cannot be answered by Primier, that is family. How can he go against his Brods? The people must rebel. If lawmakers are breaking the law what do they leave for other citizens a to do? You notice that the Brods. is a minister even though he has no birth ties to BVI and he was not born here.

Don' t feel no way Mr. Darley just join the line. The students that graduated since June last year aint get their scholarship money yet nor their original CXC's certificate. There are student who applied to colleges overseas that cant go because of this, and are forced to attend HLSCC and parents have to pay for tuition and books because they aint get nothing yet. WHAT HAPPEN TO THE SCHOLARSHIPS YOU PROMISE MR. MINISTER????????

The Governor has clearly stated (for all to hear) that he has requested that our government (among other things) be more transparent and for the Premier to live up to his promise of "government in the sunshine". The Governor has also stated that the PEOPLE must - D E M A N D - transparency from their representatives.

I suggest that the PEOPLE do exactly that by staging a peaceful demonstration on the lawn of the administration building before the end of January.

The people want to see the original quotes for the Pier Project. Further, we want to see the payments to date together with ALL info regarding who has been paid what and for what goods and services. The people want to see how every last penny was spent on this project and how much is still owing and to whom.

If we do not have the guts to hold such a demonstration, we may as well hand them the keys to our homes and give the government free access to our bank accounts. Until we DO SOMETHING, it is clear to me that NOTHING will change and it will only get worse. We MUST hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. They MUST answer to us!
