Premier Smith boasts of election victory @ just concluded OECS Meeting!

Premier Smith also told the Heads of Governments that while it’s the tradition for newly elected Heads to give some remarks it must be noted that he was “overwhelmingly returned to Government.” It remains unclear the relevance of that statement to the meeting. In addition, Premier Smith complained about air transportation and spoke to how the Virgin Islands economy has been challenged. Photo: Internet source/File
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The recent Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Heads Of government meeting held in the Commonwealth of Dominica from November 18 to 19, 2015 saw the attendance of the Virgin Islands’ Premier and Minister for Regional Affairs Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith.

At this the 62nd Authority meeting Premier Smith was invited to speak at the Opening ceremony. It is the tradition that beside the Leader of the host county or the OECS Chairperson Heads of Governments who have been recently elected after the last meeting held by the OECS Authority are invited to speak at the opening.

According to our news room’s sources inside the meeting Premier Smith made clear that he was not new to the OECS as he had served as Chief Minister of the “BVI” [2003-2007] and now going on his second term as Premier [2011-current] of the Virgin Islands.

I won big time

Premier Smith also told the Heads of Governments that while it’s the tradition for newly elected Heads to give some remarks it must be noted that he was “overwhelmingly returned to Government.”

It remains unclear the relevance of that statement to the meeting. In addition, Premier Smith complained about air transportation and spoke to how the Virgin Islands economy has been challenged.

Dr. Smith told the OECS Heads and other delegations that the VI is struggling with “air access with the pull out of American Airlines.” He went on to promised direct flights from the USA to the VI and spoke to his government’s plans to extend the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

In the just concluded election in the VI held on June 8, 2015 Premier Smith’s National Democratic Party was returned to power in a landslide victory with 11 seats to the Opposition Virgin Islands Party 2 in a 13 member elected House of Assembly.

we all know the NDP is doing a better job than VIP; ask the taxi men, more cruise ships: the taxi men can now share money with the gas station, supermarket and the stripers...all I am simply saying, what is being done now in the year 2015 should have been already done back in the 80s under the VIP....I live west end and come 10PM the road shutdown to install sewage a line: the member for the 3 had the golden opportunity to carry out these works many many years ago....yes I talk it!!!
