ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith has reiterated the definition of marriage as far as the territory is concerned as being between a man and a woman.

It was during a press conference hosted by the Premier yesterday July 16, 2015 that he was again asked to give a position on the question of gay marriage in the territory. On Friday, June 26, 2015 the US Supreme Court said marriage for all is a constitutional right, setting off triumphant marches and statements worldwide as it was seen as a victory for the gay community.

"The present posture oh the BVI where gay marriage is concerned is that we recognise that marriage is between a man and a woman," he said.

The Premier noted that if there is to be any change this will have to be based on the will of the people of the Virgin Islands.

"If that is to change, that will change as a result of discussion within the community and eventually a discussion in the House of Assembly," he said.

A few weeks ago Premier Smith had told this news site that the Constitution of the Virgin Islands has a human rights section which he said gives anyone the right to visit the territory as he looked at the tourism impact of the likely influx of gay couples coming in.

“Whatever decision they make about gay marriage in the United States would not affect the visitation of anybody to the British Virgin Islands.”

“There are no immediate plans for further discussions,” he had said.

The Church on gay marriage in the VI

Prominent church leader residing on the sister island of Virgin Gorda, Bishop Paul A. Ricketts declared that he would never perform a gay wedding.

He insisted that the church has to love people in spite of their sexual orientation. “And I am one of those persons who loves people in spite of their struggles,” he said, noting that he does not see the permitting of same-sex marriage throughout the USA being bigger than any other thing that has been passed before.

“They have passed other things that run contrary to my belief system and I don’t see this bigger than anything else,” said Bishop Ricketts, even though noting that he sees it as another “thing” that is being set up for the church to be prosecuted.

“There is coming a time when all of us are going to have to take a stand. We are going to have to either listen to man, man’s law or the law of God and I would rather for man to be angry with me than for God to be upset with me because man can only hurt the flesh, God can destroy body soul and spirit.”

We represent the government of God

Bishop of the New Life Baptist Church Bishop John I. Cline said that people must stand on God’s position on the matter. He added that as a Christian community the church is the church. “We don’t represent the US government or the UK government, we represent the government of God, we represent God and we must stand for the God position no matter what any government says.”

He said, however, that as a church they are mindful of people because in the home and other circles of church members are persons who have declared themselves gay or homosexual. “So we have to deal with those people. We don’t condemn them but we certainly do not condone the behaviour and certainly do not agree with it because it is not consistent with scripture and the laws and the moral standards of Christianity or of God.”

Do you have evidence of what you speak? What wrong with these people jumping all over gay people?
It's not your business. And what the hell if they gay, eh?

Jump on the liars in the town -- that's a sin
Jump on the fornicators in the country -- that's a sin
Jump on the covetous bad-minded people in town -- that's a sin
Jump on the murderers in Balo -- that's a sin
Jump on those who disobeyed their parents -- that's a sin stinking in the schools

Why jump on the gay people? If you condemning sin, then start really jumping all over town because you missing a whole lot of sin -- a bunch of hyprocrites minding people's business.
It is time to leave the gay people alone and stop wearing that ugly frown
It's upon us, and what you going to do when it's in your house too, eh?

No man had seen God at anytime, so I ask, who wrote the reference that Micky Mouse is alluding to in Leviticus?
Can't we get it, people, the directions to mankind in those books were written by MEN like you who thought they would put in print what, in their opinion, were guidelines for the people of that day. People, wake up and stop accepting those scripture references as something that the Supreme being laid down for you to follow.

We are acting ignorant on this whole topic. We all knew about a man of long ago acting like a real woman -- he never married, he liked to do women things -- it is because there was a genetic mutation in his genes. Why are we hot of this topic of gays?

And in another hand we say God made them fearfully and wonderfully, right? He made that see-see man. Who is going to marry the see-see man but another see-see man. You sending that man to go marry some mother good child just to mess up her life. We need to come to grips with reality. There are people in our country who do not like men and some men who do not like women. If they want to marry who they love, let them be. I tired hearing this talk like loving who you love is a greater sin than them who thiefing, looking woman on their wife, and coveting what other people got.

Wisdom is to high for a fool. No man has seen God at any time because God is spirit, just as you have a spirit .The Bible is Gods inspired word to man through the aid of His Holy spirit and will always be so no matter what rebellious unbelieving people want to say, Gods son Jesus the Christ was made manifested in the flesh and was seen of man. Sin is sin in whatever form it takes, the world is messed up because of sin, but God sent His own son to die for the sin of mankind and if anyone is willing to be free from their sins, no matter what type he can be free.

There is an evil spirit of disallusionment over the Virgin Islands. Nothing will go right unless the peopoe repent of their wicked ways and repent. God will bring you all to your knees to repent. No rain will fall until you all change you all wickedness. A set of demons are now roaming our islands. REPENT!

Rain not falling because of the El Nino weather pattern. It got nothing to do with what "DEMSAY"'s opinion is - "wicked ways and repent." There was a time we used to accept those opinions but we know it is just someone blogging their two cents. Ask DEM SAY to identify a demon and see if he or she can. You see the type of statements people making? The gays were here long before Columbus came to these shores and they will be here long before DEM say gone home to rest. Talk to a real gay person and hear his or her side of the story. Perhaps you may write differently next time.

He said not for now so anytime now he might change his mind. Please Sir go the right way he(God) said to love one another but he didn't make two of the same sex being together as husband and wife. It is already happening without or without legislation and not taking the stand like Obama and others will make your children and others to look up to you not now but for always. Follow the good ways that your days may be long on this earth. Many die not because of age, health, etc sometimes ,but what is on their conscience that bothers them from time to time or time everlasting and what eventually take them to their graves. Do the right think and go God's way.

Everyone will come with his or her opinion.
It is a global issue, and everyone will state their biblical information.
The Gay life is not understood by many.
Being a gay is base on the genes and hormones.
Being in a man's body but feels like a woman.
Being in a woman's body but feels like a man.
It is a tough debate, but we have to accept.

What ever happened to love thy neighbor and live and let live...a person has the right to their beliefs and what they are...It is similar to those who are against abort: a woman's body is hers and control of it is in her control...No one has the right to tell another what is right or wrong..it is the individual's business and noone elses...and that is that.If a man is anti abortion, then let him be raped and have to carry the unwanted child....what about that? And, noone chooses to be gay as they would not want to be discriminated against for life..

      The Word Of God:
      God's Wrath against Sin
Romans 1:26-27: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet." Thank you to OPINIONS and DEEPL CONCERNED. After all, these are two in the BVI who understand the gay situation. Everyone basing their opinions on what the Bible say and their pastors say, but to all these rules that society wants most to subscribe to, there are exceptions. A true gay person is genetically made that way. It is not something that can come out by prayers, exorcism, water baptism, or going your family and church way. Just like you cannot remove the eyebrows from your face, the gay person cannot remove his or her gayness. They possess feelings of love like the heterosexual but when the time to love comes, he or she finds real love with his or her own sex. Please try to understand from judging.

God made all of us in His image...straight, gay, normal, disabled etc plain and simple. If same-sex couples want to be married I feel they should be able to do just that. I am tired of people promoting hatred and discrimination towards person who are gay. Just let them be.

Being gay is unnatural like human beings having sex with animals. I'm sorry to bring the bad news. The human body was designed in a way that every part serves a purpose. It is not by accident or chance. It is no accident that a woman has a vagina and men have a penis and when combined they are able to procreate and also experience pleasure. There is no intended purpose for 2 men or women to come together sexually. The penis was never designed to be a human plunger neither was the buttocks designed for entrance. By saying that you can be sexually attracted to someone of the same sex and that love has no face or gender opens the door for people to say I am sexually attracted to my mother, father, sister and brother which people would define as a mental illness so what's the difference in this case. Being gay has become acceptable to those other governments because more people were committing these acts and there became a high demand to legalize it. What if more people start committing incest to the point where they demand to be treated fairly and given a chance do we legalize brothers having sex with their sisters etc. When they start using the "gay excuse" What do we say when they demand to be able to be with the one they love?

Thank you for that comment, i agree 100%. There is a principle for everything in the world, it is what governs that body. Gravity has a principle/law and so does nature and everything created, man made or God made. That's why there are operation manuals, the manufacturer tells you how the thing should function by giving you a manual with the product. The natural way of things in the human life is man and woman, no if and,s or but,s that,s just the way it is that,s what the creator of His product says.Defy the manufacturers rule and see what happens in the long run! The devil is deceiving a lot of people into believing that people are born that way NONSENSE.. THAT,S A BIG LIE. DON'T CARE WHO WANT TO REFUTE THIS ..NO ONE IS BORN GAY!!!!!!!

It is unnatural for a gay person to love a hetrpexual person. Can't you understand, there will be no connection. Anyway, ten years from now all will sing another tune so let the weeds and the seeds grow together till each is satisfied. Some people just don't understand the story of the gay person. They hard-ears oooh!!

God loves the sinner, but hates sin and we are to love each other but not partake of each others wrong even when accepted by government and systems.
