ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Public Officers are making preparations to celebrate Public Service Week 2013 with pre-events scheduled to begin on April 3 under the theme, “Bridging the Gap: Setting the Pace for 2013 and Beyond!”

The week, which will be held from June 2 to 10, will see government’s ministries, departments and statutory bodies competing in various sporting activities such as softball, basketball, bowling, scrabble and dominoes.

Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office Mr. David Archer, speaking to the Department of Information and Public Relations explained that pre-events for the sporting activities are being held for two reasons. “We are having pre-events for the sporting events in advance of the week of activities to firstly create excitement for the week,” he said, adding, “Secondly, pre-events are being held to ensure the majority of sporting activities are played in advance of the week of activities, saving the final games to be played during the week.”

Pre-events will be held during the entire month of April and conclude on May 2. Scrabble will be played on April 3, 4 and 5 at 12noon in the Breezeway of the Central Administration Complex. Basketball will be played on April 8, 9 and 11 at 6pm; dominoes will be played on April 15, 16 and 18 at 12noon in the Breezeway of the Central Administration Complex.

Additionally, volleyball will be played on April 22, 23 and 25 at 6pm and softball will be played on April 29 and 30, concluding on May 2 at the Roger Allen Hodge Park in Sea Cow’s Bay also at 6pm. The location for basketball and volleyball will be announced soon.

Public Officers are encouraged to attend the pre-events to support their team members. The public is also invited to the events to witness public officers competing in the various events.

Public Service Week is held annually to highlight the contribution of the public service to the Territory’s development and give members of the public an opportunity to gain a better appreciation and understanding of the work of the Public Service.
