ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- “New kid on the block” People’s Patriotic Alliance (PPA) said it is pleased with its results at the polls and intends to remain on the political arena.

The party, which was launched on July 12, 2011, received 2204 Territorial At Large votes of the 34,365 ballots counted at the November 7, 2011 General Elections. Shaina M. Smith was its highest vote getter with 889; Natalio Sowande Uhuru Wheatley received 785; Elton Callwood 332 and Khoy Smith 198 votes.

“We felt very good…it was a very good showing for the first time around and we have to now prepare to continue to be on the scene,” Ms. Smith told Virgin Islands News Online.

The PPA had also earlier released a statement thanking all their supporters and also extended congratulations to the winning National Democratic Party (NDP). “The Territorial Candidates of the People's Patriotic Alliance, Elton Callwood, Shaina M. Smith, Khoy Smith and Natalio "Sowande Uhuru" Wheatley, would like to thank all their family, friends and supporters who came to rallies, gave donations, allowed them into their homes and businesses, gave advice and encouragement, prayed and voted for them among other acts of solidarity. We congratulate the National Democratic Party on their victory, and congratulate all candidates that contested the 2011 Elections for a job well-done. We encourage fellow Virgin Islanders and residents of the territory to stay vigilant and participate in the governance of our country by holding our leaders accountable for a progressive national plan that will take our country forward. One Country! One Direction,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Smith said the PPA will also be looking to attract a full team with the aim of becoming a much stronger force at the 2015 General Elections. As it is, the PPA only consists of four members, who all ran as At Large candidates.

Khoy and Elton should be Campaign helpers, not running!

I second that thought. Khoy single handly killed the party's chance of anyone getting elected. People wanted change yes but his ideology was just nonsense. I overs that the man is a "Christian" but he got to understand that the political areana is totally different from personal beliefs.

Awesome Job Guys you all did a good job but lets start your 2015 campaign from today, start your fund raising early so that when elections come around you can afford to be more visible, also start working on those district representatives so that you have a fighting chance at weaker districts because people are looking for honest people with integrity to run our country but they will not vote full heartedly if they don't think you have a chance to actually win.... keep up the good works God Bless, 1 love...

Good showings PPA for your first time but you need some changes NOW. Like I said from Day 1 – Shania should step up be the LEADER of the Party. Get rid of LT and Khoy as candidates – they can be helpers. Add some new members to your team for a minimum of at least 8 candidates. You have 4 years to put your work in but don’t disappear… Good luck.
