ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Declaring that he is a man of God and that power will change hands on November 7, 2011, the day for the General Elections, 2nd district candidate under the National Democratic Party (NDP) Claude Skelton Cline unveiled several immediate issues he will address as soon as he takes office that need urgent attention.

At the NDP’s rally on Saturday October 22, 2011 in Cane Garden Bay, Pastor Cline said he is not running against anybody but he is running for a better future for the Virgin Islands.

Stating that the Territory is in need of visionary leadership, Cline said immediately upon taking office, he will commence fixing some of the “simple things” that should have been done a long time ago. Starting from Jost van Dyke, Cline said he will begin fixing the roads that goes to the eastern end of the island, reconfigure the proposed Multi-purpose centre on the island to accommodate the primary school and immediately purchase a generator for the Immigration and Customs office.

The 2nd district candidate said the culverts will be taken out of the ghut in Ballast Bay and a bridge will be put across the ghut to reduce the constant flooding in the area.

Cline said he will sit with the recently established Brewers Bay Development Association to come up with a development plan for Brewers Bay and he will return to his Government, “command and demand” that they begin work in areas that were left behind for so long.

He also reminded 2nd district residents of his plans to put a basketball court at the Enis Adams Primary School to accommodate the school during the day and the young men of the Harrigan community during the afternoons and evenings.

Furthermore, he proposed that during his first month in office, he wants to form a business and trade association for all the business men and women in the second district where “they will set their own polices, they will chose their own offices, they will set their own rules so when I bring the bacon back it is them and not me who will decide how the bacon is shared among the people of the second district”.

For Cane Garden Bay, the NDP candidate revealed that steps will be put in place to help restore the Callwoods Rum Distillery which will serve as a tourists’ attraction and to also preserve its legacy.

Fixing of the road down to Cane Garden Bay will also be among the priorities for Cline, along with the completion of work on the Cane Garden Bay cemetery.

New location for IDPS or sewerage system

Speaking of the long standing sewerage overflow concern that affects the Ivan Dawson Primary School, Cline said either the sewerage system will have to be relocated which is currently behind the school or the school will have to be moved.

He reminded supporters that every time it rains heavily; the sewerage overflows, affecting the school's operations and sanitation. He further reminded residents that the system which was put down there 13 years ago was put in “the wrong place and the wrong system” since the sewerage line also runs several feet into the sea and onto the coral reefs which have suffered severe damage.

Eating fish that eat human waste

To the surprise of some, Cline asked if they knew they were eating fish that was eating raw human waste.

“… human waste is the nastiest thing in the planet and we eating fish that eating raw human waste. Where we are trying to live healthy by eating fish, sometimes chicken, but we are eating our own mess. I am asking you do you want to change,” he asked residents, stating that he would immediately upon taking office, formulate the legislation that has been sitting in Conservation and Fisheries Department, to put infrastructure in place for pump-out stations.

Speaking of the urgent need to protect the beach and its environs, particularly in Cane Garden Bay, Cline recalled that the Government has been asked for $175,000 for the Water Shed Restoration project for Cane Garden Bay which will seek to re-mediate the current situation where debris get into the sea. However, he said as of October 22, they have not received even $175.

Meanwhile, Cline pledged that he will hold meetings in the district every three months once elected to office to report to the people.

Cline said it does not really take a visionary to do things for the people but just somebody who cares enough to go “to the tables of decisions to fight on your behalf”.

That is prophetic. It has nothing to do with withcraft. Power will change hands. Just believe. God is in charge of everything even the Government. So to leave God out of it does not make sense. I declare.

"Immediately, as I am elected into office. i'll do.......blah...blah....blah" Come on people keep it real, you do not know what you're going to meet when you get in there, so why say "as soon as i get in" And things are not always going to pan out the way you plan it. That's all I'm hearing from most if not all of you, as soon as you get in, you'll do this and that a month is only 30-31 days and it's the end of the year, the holiday season is coming up etc, so there goes the "as soon as I get in office" authentic agenda and the way how some like to drag them foot by the time they get around to the as soon as i get in office agenda, it'll be election time again. Say i'll have most of these things if not all done by the next election now that sounds more realistic and attainable to me. Nooooo but everybody with this I thing, I will do this and I will do that, I's can only see they can't do, they can only see what needs to be done, but can't do anything about it, toooo much I's I am guessing that's why too much is not getting done, because everybody seeing, but not one doing.

Seriously, you are so right!!! I heard in Anegada yesterday at the NDP Rally, about getting certain things done in the first 100 days!! Come on candidates, people are not stupid, we all know, you may do your best and still not be able to accomplish what you are promising at all, let alone the first 100 days. Why?? Because we know, if you win, you will have to work with the Governor's Civil Service. These are the people who are actually running this country and if they are not on your team, tooooooo bad! Set up to fail, is how our Government is run, Governor's Civil Service answer to him, and have life time jobs. The elected ministers, have to rely on the Governor's Civil Service to get things done. The Civil Service has its own ways of doing things and they know who their boss is, so please Candidates, do not promise more than you can deliver. If you do you will regret it in the next election. As Seriously says, "Come on people, keep it real." When the new Constitution was written, they should have changed the part where the civil servants answer to the Governor. We need a Civil Service the elected Ministers and Premier are in control of, not the Governor!
