CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI – The idea of having a Mardi Gras Fest as a substitute for the now defunct annual Music Fest in Cane Garden Bay seemed a brilliant one as many persons turned up for the inaugural event that was headlined with the performance of Jamaican dancehall sensation Popcaan, who was a hit with the crowd.

The opening act at Myett’s done by Jon Gazi, an award winning musician from neighboring USVI who set the pace for those who followed; Ah Milli Soundz, OMG, NJAR, Popcaan, and the closing act, which saw the local band ‘VIBE’ putting a high velocity cap to the long night of entertainment.

Speaking with this news site, Public Relations Officer for the event Ms Jehree Clarke said, “It was well attended and the crowds were psyched to be able to dance in the soft sand of the beach.  The theme was Mardi Gras with colorful beads and masks and glow necklaces. What a party!  The lineup was made up of some of the BVI’s top musicians and our special Jamaican guest star.”

She related that Popcaan’s performance included songs from his debut album, ‘Where We Come from’, including ‘Everything Nice’ which has been a big hit throughout the Caribbean and the world. “The crowds went wild when he sang out ’Only Man She Want’, one of his earlier hits,” she added.

The organisers were pleased with how good the event turned out. “The ambiance and weather was perfect, the bars were well stocked and the food from Myett’s was great. The locals and visitors alike had a really nice time.

“Popcaan and his band loved the BVI hospitality and wish to return for another performance”.

According to Clarke, plans for the next big summer beach fest are currently in the works and artists and ticket sales will soon be announced.

Ms Clarke, who is also a key player in Promoters Five Star Productions, took the opportunity to thank all the supporters and sponsors.  These included Caribbean Cellars, DonQ Rum, Patron Tequila, Carib Beer, Virgin Islands News Online, British Virgin Islands Tourist Board, Island Style Car Rental, CBN Channel 51 and Myett’s.
