Political infighting at home costing VI on international front – Hon. Fahie
Hon. Fahie said, “If we want to be united, we cannot ask for us to be united and while we’re trying to help you fight outside forces, you’re on the local front trying to destroy our face.”
During an interview on the Morning Ride Show on ZROD FM with Paul ‘Gadiethz’ Peart on May 15, 2013, the Opposition Member called on the governing National Democratic Party (NDP) to lead by example.
The First District Representative said, “We’re trying to fight outside forces but meanwhile, back home on the ranch, there is still an aim to convince persons that the last administration left us broke.”
He revealed that shots are being fired from behind while attempts are being made to fight the enemy in front. “In no way can that work,” he declared, “we have to sit down at the table and come to grips with what’s happening.”
He chided the NDP for an audit report on the performance of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) in the previous administration which he described as being questionable.
He said the NDP’s actions now, go beyond what the report accuses the last administration of and said this was not being looked at.
“We cannot be fighting internationally and saying [we are] a united front,” Hon. Fahie stated, “while locally, you’re doing as much as you can, very quietly to divide, and when you speak on these things, some people get angry and say that you need to leave them alone.”
Hon. Fahie said this strategy profits no one in the long run.
He also added that the government gave all assurances that the departure tax by land and sea would not have been increased and this did not turn out to be so. “I heard it with my own ears, they said that even with the economic climate, they would not be increasing the departure tax, then we were told that it would not be for locals, now… just like everyone else the Opposition sat down and we heard that the departure tax by sea will be increased.”
“It is hard for someone to fight with you when they cannot be assured that you are not going to change the rules of the game midway through the game,” Hon. Fahie asserted.

Hon. Andrew Fahie keep the pressure on. They have two faces and you do not know which one to trust. The head is the worst of them all because he should know better. Shame on you!!!
The man who making the most noise and causing the most confusion in HOA finally realizing that he and the other pitbull from the 3rd not making things better for the country? All they care about is scoring points and arguing foolishness. not a proper solution to any problem, just tit for tat and asking a set of bull$h1t in the house.
I too continue to wonder how we (Virgin Islands) is being perceived in the international marketplace that we keep talking about. Seems to me like we are shooting ourselves in the foot. How will the very persons/entitities we are working so hard to attract, view us when considering what move to make, whether tourists, business persons or investors.
Our leaders need to re-focus and think long and hard before speaking. And this fighting in the HOA needs to stop, we should be able to respectfully disagree and maintain integrity.
All the international community needs to do is look at these blogs and guarantee tourist numbers will drop through the floor.
No one cares that wo political parties are sparring or bickering. It happens everywhere.
But tourists and investors absolutely HATE xenophobia and racism.
Once the content of some of these blogs - all about "island people" and "the whites" hits the news or even tourism sales agents in those countries, people will simply chose to go elsewhere.
Why would they want to visit a country where outsiders are so hated?
Think about it, all you BVI supremacists. Face the fact: our world is diverse and love is the key to our success.
The government has s right to change its decision on a m Mater if it feels it is the right thing to do fo the development of the country. The problem is that Min Fahie is not in the government, but he and Min Fraser wants to decide what and how the government should make decisions.
