ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin today, December 4, 2020, granted serving member of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Emile Jimenez, 32, bail in the sum of $375,000 with two signed sureties when he appeared before her via Zoom in relation to the recent $250M drug bust in Balsam Ghut on Friday, November 6, 2020.

Jimenez was charged with one count of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug to another, three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, one count of keeping a firearm without a licence, and one count of unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon.

He entered not guilty pleas to all the offences.

According to Crown Counsel Kristian Johnson, the Crown is in possession of surveillance footage and documents with the defendant’s name linking him to the drugs and firearms.

Furthermore, the court heard, on November 6, 2020, when police were conducting the raid at the Balsam Ghut property, the defendant who was not a part of the operation, came in his uniform inquiring about the reason for the search.

Further investigations were made, and the defendant was met at the West End Police Station where he was stationed and informed of the allegations against him but made no reply.

A search was conducted at his home, but nothing illegal was found.

He was later transported to the Road Town Police Station, and on December 3, 2020, he was interviewed under caution but made a ‘no comment interview.’

The charges were eventually laid against him.

Bail

The Crown did not object to bail as his co-accusers – Mr Liston Davis, 40 and Mr Darren Davis, 41 – were reportedly granted bail at the high court.

Jiminez, who is also a Virgin Islander, was offered bail with strict conditions.

Magistrate Benjamin said he has a curfew, between the hours of 8:00 pm to 6:00 am and he must surrender his travel documents.

He was told that there would be police officers conducting spot checks at his residence, and he is not to interfere with the ongoing investigation.

He is also slated to report to the West End Police Station every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6:00 am to 6:00pm.

His matter was then adjourned to January 27, 2021.

Attorney Stephen R. Daniels represents him.
