HUNTUMS GHUT, Tortola, VI – [Post Time: 11:30 A.M.] Virgin Islands News Online has been informed that three persons were allegedly taken into custody following a police chase which was believed to have started from central Road Town and ended in Huntums Ghut sometime around 3 A.M. today Thursday September 19, 2013.

Residents of Huntums Ghut reported to this news site they were awakened by noise from a high speed chase between ranks of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and a group of men.

"We were sleeping sound and then we hear a set a noise with vehicle wheels screeching, a big commotion, and when I check it out was the popo [police] snatch some guys they brackle," said an alleged eye witness.

According to another person who claimed to be an eyewitness also, his family too was awaken by the noise from the vehicles as they sped through the area. "It looked to me like they come from Town side and was about four or five of them in there," said the resident.

The resident said he was happy that the chase didn't escalate into a shooting or violence and that he fully supports the efforts of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) to clamp down on what he described as "escalating serious crimes" in the Virgin Islands.

"They [police] doing some things but they can't get comfortable they have to take this thing much more serious. They have to intensify their efforts and deal with this situation. This is not the BVI I know where we now can't even open we shops after certain hours without fear," he added.

Efforts to get a comment from the Virgin Islands Police Force were not successful up to post time.

People like you should STOP complaining about "no jobs," create one for yourself instead of begging other people to create a job for you! Government should only foster the conditions for job creation not make one. I suppose you condone and support criminal activity in response to lazy people looking for a handout!!!

How come so many ppl on here want the government to give them a job. when i was looking for a job i waited a whole year and that was after i had completed my all my degrees. So how come when ppl just dont do anything with themselves all day they think the government should go out of their way to occupy them with something to do...the same rules dont apply to everybody anymore? And then when they break the law ppl make excuses for them and say well if the government had find work for them to do then they would not have broken the law? well i think its about time i quit my day job

Check your facts before posting rubbish. While you were safe in bed, UK and local officers were working hard to get gangsters off the streets. You can thank everyone involved later.

I am living in the United States. I have been out of work now for the past 4 years. The president of the United States have been in office now for over five years. Do I continue to blame him for me not working and the nation not having work. We as a people have to have ambition. Did you go to school? Did you learn a trade? If you did use your trade to support you from finding excuses all the time. I notice in the Virgin Islands there are so many talented men from the different Caribbean Islands just using the skills they learn to live. Why you all don't get up off of your rusty behind and do something for yourself instead of calling your own people all the time. Notice that white people do not call down their own people they lift them up. We the only race destroy our own. Come on people stop it. Beside, I use my skills learned as a young person to support me now. I do not have a job, I am not stealing nor finding excuses. I am doing what I love doing to support me and my family. Grow up people.

when you say they have done nothing are you referring to handouts? We all see how that has destroyed the talent and integrity of our people. NDP will have to break that culture of lazy people sitting on their behind and depending on Government to give them bread. Develop yourself young people. Get an education, develop a skill, a trade, a career! Don't let outsiders come here and reap the fruits, catch the fishes, and you only get the scraps. This land is your land! Take responsibility and learn how to take care of it yourself.

Why didn't the eyewitness report the abuse given by the police during this incident???? Problem is the Police cant be trusted so you dont know who to talk too. Persons in this territory do have rights and are innocent until proven guilty. Its not everybody who out on the road late are criminals. Sometimes the Police go about things the wrong way thats why they loose many of thier court cases. I realize there are no comments from the Police on this story.....

People like your self is one of the reasons crime is on the rise. You love to cover for your family when they are doing wrong.

The BVI crime rate is getting to the point of being "Out of Control". Just read all the gun related incidents, robberies, break-ins, drugs, etc. The BVI is no longer a country of honest citizenry. The youth (20 to 40) have no respect for any authority. They have cars, boats, electronics, jewelry, clothes yet no one seems to work. They blame the economy for their acts yet there are jobs available (for those who really want to work). The people from down island are the people working. It is beginning to be a culture of lawlessness. The RVIPD are too slow to react to this new culture. Every incident seems to have the police saying "If anyone knows anything, please call us and let us know". We are in for some bad times.

Crime can never be solved by the police alone, it has never happened and will never happen, the Community has a role to play, including science and technology. Crime is usually committed against members of the public not the police, so the public who see and hear must play their part in assisting the police to solve crimes.

It is high time that we start blaming these scum bags for their crimes. The police are not perfect and therefore like any other profession has persons employed that may not be capable of doing their job.
Some do, this is seen daily as we read our online news sites " Breaking news Police arrest robbers, Police arrest persons with guns" this shows that some are working, you also hear the police thank members of the public for assisting them in the arrest of these scums of society. (Which means they got assistance from some one)

On the question of response, response can only be done adequately and expeditiously when the right information is provided and the necessary resources are available. (This is usually not done)When the Virgin Islands have a proper communication system in place, street naming, house numbering and an emergency response network up and running maybe things will change. So, "if any one knows anything, please call us and let us know" remember, united we stand ( Community and Police) divided we fall.
