ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Following successful raids by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), four persons have been arrested in connection with a robbery and possession of an illegal firearm.

According to a Police Press Release issued today August 4, 2017, the four men are Richard Freeman, 20 and Jequan Reid, 19, both of Duff's Bottom, and Triston Liburd and Stephen Harrigan, both of Valley, Virgin Gorda. The four are jointly charged with robbery while other charges are likely to follow.

The arrest and charges are in relation to an incident which took place on July 17, 2017 where a male was robbed of a sum of cash in the vicinity of First Caribbean Bank.

Photos of two masked men fleeing the area on a motor scooter in the Admin Drive area were released by Police in connection with the robbery.

Increasing Robberies

Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands (VI) has been facing a series of robberies in recent times. Two masked men attempted to rob Bob’s Gas Station on Saturday evening July 29, 2017 after 10 PM.
In addition, two other robberies were reported by a lone gunman and another at Struggling Man Restaurant and Bar on Wednesday evening August 2, 2017 around 8:00 PM where cash was taken.

According to Police, no injuries were reported in those incidents.

Notably, assailants were all described as wearing black with their faces covered. In the robbery at the Struggling Man Restaurant, the assailant was described as approximately six feet tall and light skinned.

Public support

Commissioner of Police Michael Matthews had engaged the community in a Territory-wide crackdown to reduce the number of firearms available for carrying out serious or violent crime and made a special appeal to the public to provide names of persons seen with, suspected of having or importing illegal firearms into the Territory.

“We don’t need your name. Just tell us who has a firearm or where it can be found. We will do the rest,” said the Commissioner who continues to appeal to the Public for their assistance.
