Police: Boat captain in dinghy mishap officially charged

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - According to a police press release, a Jost Van Dyke ferry boat captain was formally charged yesterday, Tuesday December 6, 2011 with a reckless and negligent act in relation to a boating collision earlier in the year, which left a dinghy passenger with severe leg injuries.

Kendrick Chinnery Sr. of Jost Van Dyke was captain onboard the ferry boat that collided with a dinghy carrying a couple near the main dock in Great Harbour around 6:40pm on the afternoon of July 19 of this year, the release added.

One passenger, a 65-year-old female German tourist, was thrown from the dinghy and her leg was severed. The other passenger in the dinghy was unharmed.

Chinnery was taken before Magistrate’s Court and granted $35,000 bail.
