Pleasant Valley to face Parsons in SCB softball final!
Pleasant Valley stormed from behind after being down 5 to 1 in the bottom of the 5th inning to break Cherry Ghut's heart in a 10-9 thriller for the ages.
In the do or die inning, Pleasant Valley scored 4 runs to overcome the tough Neville 'Sheep' Smith who had a 3 run 9-6 cushion. He walked 3 batters and a mishandled ball thrown to the plate caused Pleasant Valley to score the tying and winning run. Pleasant Valley blasted 10 runs on 7 hits, committed 4 errors and left 5 on base.
Top Hitters for Pleasant Valley were Raymore 'Shaq' Maduro and David 'Flopper' Matthias who went 2 for 3. Pedro Suagarez, Curtis Freeman and Cecil Fraser all singled. The winning pitcher was Allen 'Woodrow' Smith who relieved Pedro in the top of 5th and blew away all three Cherry Ghut batters.
Cherry Ghut dominated the game for the first 4 and a half innings, scoring 9 runs on 12 hits. They committed 5 errors and left 2 on base. The losing pitcher was Neville 'Sheep' Smith in relief of Darel Robinson. Hitters of note for Cherry Ghut: Jeremy 'Powerhouse' Penn was 3 for 3 with a single and 2 doubles, Ravon Hodge and Jamal Allen went 2 for 3 with a homerun, Sirron Scatliffe was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and Sylvester 'Bucker' Johnson, Carlos Maynard and Alvin Bolton singled.
2-time defending champs Pleasant Valley having eliminated Cherry Ghut in their best of 3 first round series 2-0, will now face Parsons in the SCB Village Softball Fastpitch Championship in a best of 3 series beginning this Sunday July 7, 2013 at the Roger Allen Hodge Park at 6 P.M. Food and drinks will be on sale.
