CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI- After having dinner at a restaurant in Cane Garden Bay on February 16, 2017, the evening for a pilot living and working in the territory, Mr Seth Willis, would unfortunately be ruined when he returned to his vehicle only to discover it was vandalised, including two of his tires slashed.

A disappointed Mr Willis, who shared his story on the BVI Community Board on Facebook, said he was parked close to Myetts.

“There was oil poured everywhere inside my jeep and two of my tires were slashed. After dinner I got back to my vehicle and discovered all of this and a group of people in an apartment above my parking spot seemed very interested as I approached my vehicle. I assume they had something to do with it but I did change my flat tire, wipe the inside down and make my way home.”

No one to make report to at CGB Police Station

Mr Willis noted that he stopped at the Cane Garden Bay Police Station to make a report “and no one was there and the phone number didn't connect to anyone.”

Contacted today, however, Mr Willis told this news site he did speak to the police today and is to give a statement.

“I have spoke with them and they are starting an investigation. Thank you for the support…Mr Willis stated.

It is not clear at this time if anyone has been arrested.

“It doesn't matter who I am exactly to the BVI but I'm sure I was pegged as a tourist in the wrong parking spot. We have to do better than this. Most of our economy depends on tourists, accountants, and lawyers. I'm just one that helps get all of them here for your local businesses and I get repaid like this?

“I hope this post helps change the attitude we have toward each other or it makes people realise how we need to be more aware of our safety on the island,” Mr Willis’ Facebook post read.

Lucky Mr Willis?

Mr Willis could probably still consider himself lucky to have returned to a vehicle, unlike a couple, who over the Christmas season got engaged in New York and returned to the Virgin Islands hoping to begin celebrations but instead were thrown into frustration after their vehicle was allegedly stolen in Huntums Ghut on the main island of Tortola, a story first and accurately reported by this news site on January 6, 2017.

Mr Steve Langford had said their automobile, a dark green 1999 Suzuki Vitara, was left at a mechanic in Huntums Ghut to be looked at, however, it vanished.

“We’d left it in Huntums Ghut to be looked at by our mechanic but before he was able to look at it the car had been taken.  He [mechanic] believes it must have been taken on either the 27th or 28th of December,” Mr Langford had said, noting that the vehicle was taken from the mechanic’s yard.

The matter was reported to police but it is unclear if the vehicle was recovered.

He was having dinner with ME and 5 other friends. There were no altercations whatsoever. If there were, "Mr. Pilot" would never have aired this on FB.

Why is there a Police Station in CGB and no one is there to serve within that area? Maybe those people upstairs in the apartment saw something. CGB is pretty cramped together for persons not to witness anything.

Economies can recover, bad laws can be undone. But the ramifications of poisoning the experience of people is much harder to get over

It's sad what these criminal minded persons did to this pilot. He will never forget his experience and he will live to tell the tale over and over again of how he was treated in the BVI. These things burn bridges and breakdown the country. Now this pilot is another victim to a dire statistics.

This is very sad to read. My people of our beautiful BVI, although we don't know if this is one jealous individual or just a random group of people wanting some excitement, it certainly is not the kind of publicity we want. It is not the kind of behavior we want coming from our citizens. Please, I beg of everyone, let us keep our country one of peace and good will amongst ourselves and our visitors. We are heading down a slippery slope of possibly no return if we see and don't say therefore allowing those who are destroying our reputation, to get away with bad behavior. It might be a joke now but we will not be smiling when our shores are empty of visitors and there is no work for us. Let us fix it before it gets too broken. Takes a village to raise a child, let us go back to being a village.

Really think there is more to this than what is being revealed . However, I still can't condone this type of childish behavior. Really dumb.

I think there is more to it than what's being said. While i do not support this behaviour I think this is personal. When someone goes as far as to slash your tyres it means that they were targetting you...it just not the normal thing for people to slash tyre and pour oil.
If anything they might have stolen the vehicle but not vandalise it.

For any of you making personal remarks about Seth... Do you know him? Have you met him? Can you speak honestly about his character? I can! I'm telling you he is a good guy. We were there that night, and it truly was a bizarre and random act. There were no words exchanged, nor were there were no sideways looks exchanged. I am so tired of the "Tolans" speaking like they know all. To those speaking out of turn on this issue, I say it is YOU who perpetuate the stereotype. Stop the madness. Stop the ignorance. Stop speaking to that which you don't know. You look like fools. Because, yes... without these expats, you would have no workforce, no investors, no economy. Smarten up! Is "One Love" really just a tagline here that means nothing?? smh

Tolans are now in the minority in their own. country. These comments could be from any resident of the 100 plus countries living here so please dont generalise.

Please don't accuse an entire island of people and affix a "Tolian" label ... You're upset and getting out of line. This island is not like America where you experience racism... Please don't try to make it that way either.
  • @Star (19/02/2017, 08:10) Like (6) Dislike (1) Reply
Star, now that is a very ignorant comment. How can you gereralize and conclude that it is "Tolans" making those comments. The BVI is a melting pot of nationalities. You too are perpetuating a kind of stereotype here without knowledge. i understand your seemingly frustration but to me this is "Pot calling the kettle black". You seem to think that the only expats here are of your kind. The BVI is a beautiful place where people of all nationalities can live in peace and enjoy themselves freely. Everyone here is entitled to their opinion. If their opinions are incorrect, in your eyes, and you feel led to clarify, then do that and leave the labeling alone because you become part of the problem and not the solution. "One Love"

I really feel your pain sir but if the truth be told those same groups of people that you see are involved in activities that they should not be doing. The meet there under those trees every day or in the park. the Neighborhood , their parents and the police knows what they are doing. But everybody turn a blind eyes. only some weeks ago one can hear gun shots ringing out in the the Bay no Police around. when they completely destroyed the goose that lay the Golden Egg it might be to late.
