ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Dubbed the Ministers' race as part of Public Service Week, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) proved to be too swift for his colleagues in a sprint race at the A.O. Shirley Ground on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.

Already referred to as the ‘GQ’ Minister, Hon Rymer can now boast the title of the 'Fastest Minister' as he triumphed even over the Sports Minister, Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

The race also included Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) and guest participant, Deputy Governor David D. Archer.

With a large crowd gathered to witness the showdown, Hon Rymer ditched the dress shoes and opted to run in his colourful striped socks.

He then started the race with a burst of speed, leaving the competition in his wake.

Hon Wheatley, the Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, seemed to be running with all his portfolios on his shoulders as he dug deep and gritted his teeth but couldn’t find the speed to match Hon Rymer.

Mr Archer had to settle for third, enjoying such a handsome lead over the lumbering Hon Malone that he had time to run backwards.

Missing from the showdown were Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) and Junior Ministers, Hons Sharie B. deCastro (AL) and Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL).

Wow! Dr. Hon Natalio “Sowande Uhuru” Wheatley, Minister of Sports, got smoked, got housed. The article states: “ Hon Wheatley, the Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, seemed to be running with all his portfolios on his shoulders as he dug deep and gritted his teeth but couldn’t find the speed to match Hon Rymer.” Indeed, the portfolio is too heavy. With such a heavy load, some important service with Damocles Sword hanging over it will be left out in the cold, ie, agriculture and fishery. Ok. I’m off my soap box now and back to sports.

Without a doubt, the East (EE/LL) produces the best athletes. By the way, where was Neville “Sheep” Smith, Shereen, Sherie, and Vincent? Perhaps, there should be a legislators race including both government and opposition. Sheep is the winner by a BVI mile, smoking Kye.

Rhymer ran the race in socks and still won. All of the leaders that took part in the race did great and it sets a good example to the public service and the wider public that it is important to keep moving and stay fit. We all will not look the same but just do our best according our body type. Too many people just like to sit down.
