PHOTO of Day: Premier Fahie rocks socks for “World Down Syndrome Day”
In the VI, through an initiative dubbed ‘Wear Lots of Socks’ organised by the Ministry of Health and Social Development, persons were encouraged to wear socks to show support and bring awareness to those living with Down Syndrome in the territory.
In a Social Media post, the Premier Fahie posted a photo with the caption “I am rocking my socks in support of World Down Syndrome Day. #everyindiviualmatters,” in taking part in the social media challenge.
UN Designated Day
With effect from 2012, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly designated March 21 of each year to observe World Down Syndrome Day and invited all Member States, relevant organizations of the United Nations system and other international organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and the private sector participate.
Down Syndrome is a naturally occurring chromosomal arrangement that has always been a part of the human condition, exists in all regions across the globe and commonly results in variable effects on learning styles, physical characteristics or health.
